The flex game has got to be a thing in all these conferences, can’t half five teams from one conference when they largely didn’t play each other
The Big Ten's most recent playoff proposal eliminates conference championship games. A universal flex week over Thanksgiving could help to offset this.

Conference championship games are dumb (and, as we learned this year, also irrelevant). Flex weeks are a great idea. But the many historic Thanksgiving weekend rivalry games are also a great idea, and doing away with them would be a big loss to the sport.
Not sure how you square that unless you were to make the week after Thanksgiving a flex week.

The flex is essentially what the Bracket Buster series was in College Basketball...it will have no impact on the conference title as it will be decided who plays in that the week before - it is just the ability to showcase the best the league/conference has one last time to draw eyeballs.
As I understand it 'flex week' means that every team has that day open. Some type of commissioner would set the matchups for that week to create ones that impact the rankings.

That would have helped us immensely last season. The PC needed to see us expose an overrated SEC team, not blow out another ACC also ran.

TV networks will only give up conference championships if they get something in return for that week

Season should start a week earlier in Week 0. Reduce to one bye. That would put the season end at two weeks prior to Thanksgiving. Start the CFP Black Friday. End it by Jan 1.

Portal opens immediately following the entirety of the season.

Snap high-stakes games involving all the teams in contention for playoff spots would be much better TV than games that even the ESPN talking heads were describing as glorified exhibition games after Bama lost.

Eliminate a bye - give each time one bye a season.

Two bye weeks only happen during certain calendar years. This upcoming 2026 season teams only have 1 bye and the season still starts on Labor Day and ends Thanksgiving weekend. The conference championship games delay the start of the playoffs in all of these instances

Can someone step in and just say NIU and Sac State need to swap conferences? Just silliness

Sac st is throwing so much money into their program

Are they throwing money or promising to throw money?

I don’t think they actually have it. This will be the third worst team in FBS, at best and the worst by far at worst.

I'm really interested to see what happens to these lower level schools if/when a super conference happens. They'll get left behind because not even all of the current P4 will get selected - maybe a NFL number of 32ish out of the 60+ current teams. That means the leftover P4 scraps will scramble for relevance and do what they can to sacrifice the lower tier FBS schools. That's going to be a lot of money spent for something that might not even exist
