Spring ball starting in prolly a month and a half. Would think they'd like to get both these positions settled within the next week or two

The ND football program under Freeman has become notoriously tight lipped, and some have even suggested that they intentionally mislead the media at times, especially in the realm of recruiting and coaching hires. They like to do things as secretly as possible and control the narrative as much as they can. Debacles such as the Andy Ludwig situation, which played out in the media for everyone to see, have only caused the Freeman staff to become tighter lipped.

That's why the most accurate guys, Matt Freeman for example, often release news just before it happens... Because that's when they're being told / given the "go ahead" to release what they know. A lot of the legacy ND media's sources are clearly less accurate / less informed than in the past.

There is also such increased competition these days that the media outlets often rush to be the news breakers, rather than the most accurate in what they're breaking. Furthermore, in the world of driving "clicks" some outlets are fine being "wrong" as long as they make the money associated with driving views to what they're reporting, then driving further eyeballs as they vasilate back-and-forth. There is actually more momey to be made in the quantity of information that you produce, rather than the accuracy of it. In the Twitter driven, conspiracy brained, rumour mill world that we love in, people enjoy the drama so much (especially in the off season when it's all we have) that they forgive the bad reporting and maintain their subscriptions simply for the "access".

Isn't Matt Freeman that totally uninformed, out of touch ND hater? Or am I thinking of someone else?

All of these outlets try to paint themselves as having access, some more than others. Their customers have come to expect that they do, and so demand information that an insider would know. If ND has locked down their media access this tight, there’s a lot of pressure on the outlets to fill the void however they can. This feels like the source of the portal freak out we saw.

Matt Freeman is one of the best in the business.
Ok, my bad. Who is the guy then that lives in like Chicago or something...bald guy that has that show with Sampson and bashes ND every chance he gets? Claims to be an ND reporter, but obviously is not a fan. Can't think of his name, but this season when he was bashing ND and their being deserving of the playoffs, I knew I would always dislike the guy. Who am I thinking of?

Matt Fortuna.

I can see how you mixed that up with Matt Freeman.

Matt Fortuna… Penn state grad. He’s not the most positive when it comes to ND, but he’s not too bad in my opinion. Horka on the other hand might as well work for ESPN.
Fortuna's biggest problem is that he hasn't actually covered Notre Dame Football as a job in nearly a decade. I suspect most of us regulars here have a better understanding of Notre Dame's football program in 2026 than he does. He watches the games, sure, but he has no sources anymore and most of his reference points are from the early Kelly years. And he still has that "Notre Dame isn't REALLY that good" sensibility that pervaded at the time he actually covered the program in the late Weis/early Kelly years.

Matt from ISD sounds fairly confident that ND is in The works of landing their guy at DB coach, but not solidified yet and is also confident in saying that should it happen, it'd be a great hire.

I know Singer said something similar with Valai, but I trust Matt Freeman a lot more than him with this stuff

Would he report that he’s confident we’re landing a bad hire? lol

If Aaron Henry is named co-DC like Zenitz and Nakos report, that eliminates that title as an option for LB coach. So anyone that would have needed that is probably out of the picture now. Maybe that's why there had to be backpedaling on Lezynski getting the job.

Apparently Lezynski is in the running for the Rutgers DC job

LB coach will probably be someone who played under/coached with Ash, given how the defensive hires have gone so far. Just my guess.
