Actually the opposite in terms of support staff. He made a comment about IU having 5 staffers watching opposing teams warmup and gathering data. His thinking is you had 5 people dedicated to just that means you have a larger support staff which I’m not sure I agree with.

I don’t think 5 staff members watching the opponent warm up is the missing piece for Notre Dame.

Anybody bitching about ND's inability to win it all through the Kelly era and to this point in the Freeman era is simply a complainer rather than a competitor. During that period of time, it wasn't just the Ohio State's and Alabama's of the world who won championships.

Auburn
Florida State
Clemson (multiple)
Michigan
LSU
Georgia (multiple)
Indiana

Those are all schools that also managed to "get it done" during / post the Nick Saban reign. While all of those schools have some areas of competitive advantage over Notre Dame, all of them also have disadvantages as well.

ND's been close. Get it done.

We were just in the title game last year and honestly were on of the 5 best teams this year had a great portal haul and one of the best recruiting classes in the country. Also let's be real this was a down year for college football. There are no great teams. There is no team with the talent OSU 2024 had and nothing close to the bama Georgia Clemson teams of the past

Kind of a bad look for Matt imo. Sounds like emotional complaining for the sake of it because he didn’t want IU to win.

ND has what it needs to win big.
He needs to get out of his own echo chamber. Remind him that there’s 130+ FBS teams. There will never be a true playoff so it comes down to regular season schedule & playoff seeding/draw. Then you factor in depth of roster, injuries, turnovers, penalties, etc.

Cignetti all but said he wants a cupcake schedule so they can be ready for the CFP. Their one impressive regular season win was over UO in Eugene. Then they edged out OSU in the B1G CCG. They dominated the cupcakes they faced but it took some theatrics to pull off wins over middling teams like PSU & Iowa. The opener vs ODU wasn’t a signature win either 27-14 in Bloomington.

ND may not be a full time ACC member but their agreement doesn’t give them full control. They couldn’t control Miami canceling the 2024 game in South Bend. They couldn’t control the ACC insisting that this year’s matchup in Coral Gables be the opener.

I type all that to say it takes a lot of fortuitous stuff to happen on top of being talented & well coached. ND made it to the NC last season & gained a lot of national respect as a true contender.

Given ND was playing in the NCG last year, and under MF, ND has taken all of the necessary steps to compete for a title, I'm guessing this guy is suffering from short term memory loss.

What magical information is possibly gleaned from warmups that they don't already know? I mean, I'm sure ND could have 5 staffers do that, but do you think the opposing team is giving a bunch of state secrets in that 30 minutes that allows you to now win the game? Come on, Matt.

I remember when Billy Napier was hired by Florida they bragged that they were going to have the largest support staff in CFB, around 70 guys. Sure made a big difference at Florida. Support staff seems like the new facilities, whenever something goes wrong it’s because of that specific issue.

Staffers, locker rooms, or any other thing wasn't what held us back from a championship. It was not being in a conference, plain and simple.

This title for Indiana has an asterisk. Not because of cheating or anything like that. It's because they didn't have to play the best team, because the best team at the end of the year was going to be Notre Dame. And they were left out of the playoff because they didn't have the backing of a P2 or next in line (ACC/B12) conference.

No he’ll wear a hat when it’s raining so it doesn’t make the spray on hair run.
You think that’s also part of why we will turn down bowl games in the future? He doesn’t want egg nog or mayo poured over the spray on hair? I keed.

Why is he going so hard at Driskell? Geez.

To be fair, I think it describes most of the beat, but the eating terribly thing really calls Driskell to mind
