Sleeping on Ethan Long
I'm not sleeping on him, I think he's a good play. I just think that Joey O'Brien is the Kyle Hamilton regen and quickly surpassed long in the 2-deep. If I'm wrong, it's a great problem to have and I'll happily own it.

No shade towards Long at all. I just think the other 3 kids are proven and O'Brien is a Rockstar.

I heard Nick Marsh wanted to make sure he was going against better competition in practice - Christian Gray is too slack to help him prepare his game for the NFL. That’s why he chose IU…
But wanted nothing to do with Moore 😉

I’m a bit bearish on our WR unit. Do we really just need one guy? I wouldn’t feel too comfortable trotting out a unit that largely consists of

Faison
Greathouse
Cam Williams
Gilbert
Bettis
Burress
KK Smith

+ others.

Correct me if I’m wrong/poke holes, but I think there are some question marks even if we acquire another WR, whereas a bonafide WR unit puts us as championship favorites.

I think we need 2 solid receivers if this is to be a revenge tour type year.

Is it plausible many other teams started this process long before the legal period to do so?

Seems weird guys with time to shop around are cancelling visits and signing on the spot.

Nope. A bonafied running game puts ND in the championship game. Look at the cfb playoffs. teams that run the ball and control the LOS are winning. Teams that can't run get exposed and lose. Bama couldn't run the ball and scored 3 points. IU could run the ball and scored 35.Miami beat TAMU by running the ball.

If ND can get dominate OL play opposing defenses will have to bring numbers to the point of attack. That opens up the passing game.

Conversely if ND can't run the ball teams will just sit in 2 high

You don’t think ND does this? All teams do, but ND is doing a terrible job at it so far. The fact that Freeman was possibly going to the NFL probably didn’t help things.

Ok, I'll play.

Marsh obviously planned to visit ND when he knew both offers. Say ND was offering 1.6m & IU was offering 1.5.

Marsh visits IU and in his final sit down with Cig he's told we'll offer you 2.5m but the offer expires when you leave this room and you can't make a phone call. IU says we'll move on and offer that money to 2 other portal WRs visiting tomorrow. Tha latter part is a credible scenario/threat.

What would you do?

Personally, I would take the IU offer.

Point is nobody knows what transpired between IU & Marsh so assigning blame, at this point, is beyond stupid.

I'm pretty confident ND will get a bonafide boundary WR that is better than anyone on their roster. I'm also fairly confident thay they'll upgrade at TE if they can get the right guy. I also suspect that they're going to take another rotational WR to add to the mix. If for argument sake the starting offense next year was the following, would it be the best offensive unit in college football? No, but it would be plenty competitive in support of what could be a top 5 defense.

QB: CJ Carr
RB: Aneyas Williams
WR: Ian Strong
WR: Jordan Faison
Slot: Jaden Greathouse
TE: Brody Foley or Cooper Flanagan
LT: Anthonie Knapp
LG: Charles Jagusah
C: Ashton Craig
RG: Guerby Lambert
RT: Will Black

Losing a single player of desire in the portal does not make or break an entire season lol. There are guys out there that produced big numbers in offenses led by average to bad QBs. I'd be happy to give one of those guys a shot with CJ Carr to see what kind of damage they can do.
That starting lineup is arguably worse at every skill position besides qb. I like Strong but his ceiling is probably Fields.

Turns out the school that’s gone 25-2 built largely on transfers is good at the transfer portal.
Exactly, Cig is very effective in the portal. He has to be after being ranked anywhere from 28th to 32 in the 2026 high school recruiting ranking.
