I get what you're saying... but its the SEC 8 or 9th best team vs the ACC's 2nd or 3rd best. Plus Missouri had some important sit outs/coaching changes. Bowl games mean nothing.
It does matter. The Missouri and LSU wins were "resume" builder wins that kept ND out. When in reality, Missouri, Tennessee, and LSU sucked and mid teams like UVA or Houston could beat them. More data showing ND got the shaft. It needs to have a light shined on the ugliness that is SEC/ESPN corruption. It cannot be allowed to be explained away.

I don’t really use any non-CFP “bowl” game as a point of validation for any argument at this point. Like Pump said, with all of the coaching changes, portallers, and opt outs, these teams are vastly different from what they were a month ago.

I have a difficult time discerning which bowl games count and don’t. Did the BYU - GT game count? Did the Penn State - Clemson game count? What about the ECU - Pitt or Houston - LSU? Certain ones count, but others don’t?

I gave my criteria in my post.

CFP? Count.
Non-CFP? Nope.

I mean is it fun to laugh at NardDog and Dabo? Sure. But the results themselves literally don’t mean anything.

I hear what you are saying, but that just lets the corruption off the hook. It allows the SEC to be mediocre all year and then when they play out of conference and lose it doesnt count? Sorry, something has to counter other than propping themselves up through ESPN talking heads.

I don’t disagree with but some appear to matter. When Haynes King threw his final pass - an INT - it appeared to matter. When BYU rallied back, it appeared to matter. Houston had everyone playing and playing hard while lsu had numerous opt outs. It mattered to Houston at least. Again, not arguing or disagreeing, but for some teams, it appeared to matter.

Like Conference championships… you win they count, you lose they don’t count…easy. 🤣

The SEC is not a juggernaut; not really because UH is beating LSU in the whatever bowl, but rather because an Oklahoma team needed a game winning blown coverage to scrape by a 7-5 coachless LSU team in a game where Mateer threw 3 INTs. Or because Alabama can barely beat a 5-7 Auburn team where 3 of their wins were Mercer, South Alabama, and Ball State.

Idk in what world true CFB fans watch this garbage and come away with the impression that those are great teams. You can’t. Unless you’re the committee and you try to backward justify it to fill your pocket.

Because we let humans select the playoff competitors as opposed to objective data.

It’s that simple.
It was frustrating prior though. You had many dual/split champions: Colorado-Georgia Tech, Miami-Washington, Nebraska-Michigan. Even in the BCS years it was frustrating. You had a Nebraska team get absolutely WRECKED by Colorado, yet they made the National Championship over a Joey Harrington led Oregon. You had an undefeated Auburn sit at home while Oklahoma got DESTROYED by USC. You had a rematch between Alabama and LSU back in 2009 or 2010 despite LSU previously beating Alabama in Tuscaloosa and LSU having to go play in the SEC Championship while Alabama rested and healed up. It’s probably the only sport I know of that consistently has issues crowning its champion.

And it’s really a sub-set of the sport. The FCS & D2 has been operating w/ a playoff format for decades w/ minimal issues. I can’t recall what the excuse was to not have a playoff back before conference championship games & cable tv revenue explosion. But today the main barrier is greed. It’s a professional sport under the guise of amateurism.

3 weeks later, I still am mentally processing this, and have decided if St. Peter allows an answer to any question in the universe, it’s going to be “what would the end result have been in 2025 if they made the playoffs?”

The more I see these other teams, the more I think his answer would be “they went all the way.”

Personally, I think Miami - as much as ND fans dislike them - upsetting OSU and going to the CFP Championship, even winning it all, is not so bad for ND as 1) it will show how good we were this year and how wrong it was to exclude ND and 2) it will be good to have a strong matchup with them next 11/7.

In fact, I would love it if PB, could set up a recurring home and away series with his buddy AD at Miami.

I'm so disappointed in Notre Dame not playing in the Pop Tarts bowl. "The Grandaddy of them all". I remember my joy as a child growing up in the '70s waiting all year for New Years day. It would start with the iconic Tournament of pop tarts parade, watching all the floats with different flavored pop tarts roll thru downtown Orlando streets while I sat in front of the TV eating Pillsbury toaster strudel. I'll never forget the first game, watching Archie Griffin holding up the giant pop tart after winning. All the great coaches like Woody Hayes and John McKay who ended their careers with National Championships in this great game. So now that another college football season has come to an end, let's all congratulate BYU on their National Championship win over Georgia Tech. Hopefully Notre Dame can get lucky enough to someday qualify for this game again.

According to the media, SEC 8 & 9 teams equal #2 & 3 teams in any other conference.

Oklahoma can't move the ball. Basically anyone can almost beat them
ND's biggest downfall to making the playoffs was Okl beating Bama at the end of the season. Both worthless fucks, but which would survive. were that good. In this case, after the Irish getting one shoved up their ass (no Vaseline), Okl proceeds onward and Bama waits for the committee to save their golden SEC ass. Only IF, Bama could have beaten Okl that day .... even the fucked-up CFP committee couldn't have kept the Irish out. Fuck the CFP committee!

I still makes me laugh all of the butt hurt that ND didn’t play in this game. Had we played in this game & won we would’ve been mocked for celebrating the fact that we won the Pop Tarts Bowl. Just like when we were mocked for celebrating the Sun Bowl win after most of the Oregon State team opted out, or when we were told that we didn’t truly beat an SEC team in the Gator Bowl because they had opt outs for the game. I’d be ok with the criticism about us declining the bowl game if there was some consistency to what these games actually mean.

It's such a blind spot for people

I saw some journo who i really enjoy tweet during the game that she bets ND wishes they were playing this game because then people would be talking about ND. Think about that lmaooo
