Prister did a film room on Nick Marsh. What do we make of this?
I think it's just players that ND is interested in, although I hope these film reviews are because he has intel that ND is the favorite to land these players. II said last week that ND is a real player for Marsh but that LSU would be a big threat to land his services. They said something along the lines of ND's Detroit area connection has allowed them to get a foot in the door. I took that to mean CJ Carr is recruiting him. They follow each other on IG and I believe they have a good relationship.

Degree In Hand ✅
Splitting Snaps ✅
Not a future NFL ✅

Pretty much the recipe for someone at ND that should portal and seek out their top pay day.
If you're "not a future NFL" while splitting snaps, the thinking is that you go somewhere else to put more on tape and play yourself into being an NFL guy.

Wonder if they are like cannot guarantee your going to play over durham
This was my only thought. He's in the position of going into a "contract" year facing the possibility of having what like half of his reps split with a true freshman.

Came here to say this part.

Once they earn their degree, I think every single ND player is a candidate to leave (yes, all of them), it shouldn't shock anyone, and hopefully we wish them the best if they move on.

It's just a fact that other programs are going to be willing to pay for ND backups/rotation players. Once the 4 for 40 is completed, what are we as fans expecting from them? There is a clock on football and I think these guys should be trying to earn what they can, while they can.

This is what happens when you recruit 5 stars and frankly that 5 star disappoints. They gave Young run. He wasn’t great. Burnham turned it on better to end the year. If Young was a breakout star as predicted, it would be a different tenor of the conversation.

This was an August decision that led here, not a December decision.

If he does, surely they'll add someone from the portal, right? Outside of Young and Traore we're pretty thin at DE. I like Thomas but he needs to put on 25 pounds or so.
Burgess should be ready to make an impact. He can physically do things burham can not. Also, Thomas needs to add good weight and step up or Dunham and or ebenezer could start taking reps right away. Our early schedule is conducive to letting some younger players get reps like a Dunham and or ebenezer.

If Burnham leaves I think they look at portal. Burnham probably has a chance to make more money elsewhere and he’s not an nfl guy. So he needs to maximize $$$ his last year imo.

It's risky to let quality veteran players walk IMO in a year where we are expecting to contend. IMO that cost us the first team games this past year not having experience and leadership which showed the first 3 games. It's a tough spot to be in but I think you do whatever you can to keep burnham in the fold. His leadership and experience is needed

Given their current numbers at DE, letting Burnham portal doesn’t seem like a smart choice.

Odds of them getting a better DE in the portal than Burnham? Probably not that great.
There’s like 3 DEs on prior pages on here that have announced entering portal that are better than him. Getting a replacement for Burnham via portal, if they want to, would not be overly difficult.

I think they go portal if Burnham leaves and they don’t believe in Thomas as major contributor next year

Would be sorry to see him go, but you can't overpay/promise PT that will have to go to more talented players. His experience is invaluable but what are we gonna do, chain him up in the bottom of a well?

That caused us to give up 41 points (at home) to an A&M team that just scored 3 points in their playoff game?

Agreed, if Prister’s intel is correct, this is not a “letting” decision. This is Burnham was pissed in September and probably negotiated a transfer elsewhere
So he wasn't hurt. The beat, at least some of them, kept saying that's why he didn't play. Playing Botelho over him was pretty dumb.

Based on what Mike Frank said a little while ago on Power Hour, it sounds like he expects Schrauth and Burnham to leave and everyone else (Traore, Bowen, Sneed, Gray, Shuler) to be back.

Not gonna lie, the Schrauth news is a bit frustrating. Last year's Ohio State team got multiple players to return who were slated to go higher than Schrauth is. It sounds like it's not a money thing from what Frank said, though.

EDIT: Frank just followed up on Schrauth and said it's possible he stays but it's leaning towards him leaving.

The Logan Thomas that’s barely big enough to play meaningful reps? I won’t hold my breath.

Jamie from ISD said he isn't really blown away by any of the Edge rushers in the portal. Adam Trick from Miami Ohio is a big intriguing, but I want to see/read more about his play against the run. He had multiple Ivy League offers out of HS and is a midwest kid, so he'd be a natural fit at ND.

Burhnam isn't someone that will blow anyone away either. I agree though, there isn't any home runs out there that are potential fits, but I also don't think he would be hard to replace. I'd rather keep him, but if he wants to start and or make more $$ it's probably not at ND. Young really needs to grow into owning the 2nd DE position next year.

Prister hinting that Burnham might hit the portal. Buckle up boys.

That's not what he said.

TP said at this time there's no reason to suspect he would transfer, but he did acknowledge that Burnham was unhappy with his playing time when he got healthy and Young was getting snaps.

There is a "fight to keep him" but there's no insinuation that he's ready to transfer. No need to misrepresent things and if JB stays, have the perception be that "insiders were wrong."
