I don't think he stays... But....

Literally, if there's one position that would benefit from an additional year worth millions instead of heading to the NFL, would be a RB when 2nd contracts are tough to benefit.

I would say the exact opposite. He's already earned top 10 pick slotting. That's worth approximately 30 million guaranteed. He should take the guaranteed money because you never know when an injury is around the corner.

Coming back for one year/5 mil is silly because ND can't throw a 3-4 year contract at him. Unless they can arrange more sponsors for him to make up the difference, so that he's making $8-10M over the year and even then, I'd be worried every time he took a shot.

I’d LOVE to have him back also but the money, the fact that he’s healthy, and the guaranteed contract has to be to tempting for him. Multi-generational money!! Here’s last years top 10 $ slotting. Ofcourse, it’ll be more this year.
Top 10 Picks' Approximate Contract Values (Total Value)
#1 Cam Ward (QB, Titans): ~$48.8M ($32.1M Signing Bonus)
#2 Travis Hunter (WR/CB, Jaguars): ~$46.6M ($30.5M Signing Bonus)
#3 Abdul Carter (EDGE, Giants): ~$45.2M ($29.4M Signing Bonus)
#4 Will Campbell (OT, Patriots): ~$43.6M ($28.3M Signing Bonus)
#5 Mason Graham (DT, Browns): ~$40.9M ($26.3M Signing Bonus)
#6 Ashton Jeanty (RB, Raiders): ~$35.9M ($22.7M Signing Bonus)
#7 Armand Membou (OT, Jets): ~$31.9M ($19.8M Signing Bonus)
#8 Tetairoa McMillan (WR, Panthers): ~$27.9M ($16.9M Signing Bonus)
#9 Kelvin Banks Jr. (OT, Saints): ~$27.7M ($16.8M Signing Bonus)
#10 Colston Loveland (TE, Bears): ~$26.6M ($16M Signing Bonus)

It’s not gonna be worth it for someone like him, he’s not falling past the mid-teens. Just too risky + guaranteed money is too high.

I do think a decent argument can be made for JD to come back for the right $$$ considering he’s gonna be likely a day 2 pick and a second contract for those guys are basically a toss up.

We could take a massive insurance policy out on him.

Running backs get max 10 years in the league and have some of the highest injury risk of any position. You forfeit a year in your prime you have to get paid for it. Which is near $10M given his project draft slot:

If he comes back he could steal the Heisman from Carr though 🫤
Carr would just have to wait until his senior year for the Heisman.

Let’s keep rolling on this hope train. It feels nice after this past week.

That could be the gummie though.
