I'm looking forward to all these 6th year Covid guys moving along into whatever the hell it is they are going to do next. I suppose if they have no NFL prospects and don't want to walk into the current mess of a job market, it makes sense collecting NIL checks playing college ball, but at some point in your mid 20s you need to grow up and move into adulthood. We all did it. Maybe not Lane Kiffin.

Indiana has played this roster benefit very well. Virginia has done it too. Diego Pavia is fighting to stay another year. These guys will no doubt play the portal for the 21-23 year old upperclassmen, which makes total sense, but when you have multiple starters running around who have played 30-40+ college games, that's definitely an advantage.

Curious to see how it shakes out in the next few years. Again, full marks for Cignetti. This program has been garbage for a century. He's taken them to their best two seasons, ever, back to back. Looking forward to tomorrow's game as a neutral. Couldn't care less who wins.

Good post.

It's not a bad idea getting the older guys. Look how every year in the NCAA, we see mid-majors pulling upsets because they have an older team playing against someone like Kentucky with freshmen and sophomores who were HS AA's.

I said before that I want to wait and see what IU looks like in his third year. Seems to me you still need to have some home grown talent for depth.

I have my moments.

3rd, 4th, 5th year guys I get. Football and basketball. This 6th and 7th year nonsense needs to be over with. Numbers have shown that experienced QBs and OL equate to more success. If you have 24 and 25 year old dudes who should be in the League or Canada going up against 18-21 year olds is garbage. Mind you, I'm a players guy that is in favor of NIL and The Portal 100%. I'm not in favor of Diego Pavia getting a 7th year. It's bullshit.

You're likely correct and I agree with you, but it all depends on how IU plays the portal. If they're going out and getting experienced dudes, they'll be fine. Can they keep that up year after year? We'll find out down the line.

Coming from someone who believes hating other teams is the bedrock CFB is based on, and a total believer that Cignetti is an insufferable douche...

Congrats to IU fans, the feeling they must have is indescribable. Being a fan of a blue blood program I find it beneath us to be anything but happy for a program that is having its first success practically living in memory. Good looks clowning on the Big 10 this year and humbling a juggernaut. Hope we face you in the playoffs and win.

Witnessing history I can’t lie. Like CFP is so talent dependent and it just hasn’t mattered for Cig.

I don’t believe this counts transfers unless they’ve changed the criteria.

Still impressive. We’ll see how they do without all the 5th and 6th year seniors they have

Maybe it's just time to retire a thread dedicated to a coach of another team who never coached here?
Ehhhh idk. He’s an interesting cat. He’ll probably garner more discussion as he sits in front of mic’s in the coming weeks.

He has done a phenomenal job over 2 years. Its good that ND beat them easily last year.
Maybe that is the best win of the Freeman era so far.

I don’t know if it counts transfers, but I don’t know how much they’d bridge the gap when Ohio State *also* has transfers like Caleb Downs.

He's done a great job with using the transfer portal to change Indiana.

Let's see how he does moving forward.
They already had 1 law suit this year to get a player extra eligibility.

After briefly scanning the statistic leaders on IU- it looks like Cig nailed it with Mendoza, some MAC schools, and some P4 transfers, but also nailed the evaluations of guys he brought into James Madison that followed him to IU. All that plus great coaching and organization has created a home run.

"Team Talent Composite" doesn't really matter anymore when you can get infinity insta-eligibility transfers that are 21+ years old

I think OSU was coming off the Michigan win-lull and the game last night was just for seeding. The team knew it didn't matter. They just won it all as the 8 seed.
That game was IU's Super Bowl.

Imo, in the playoffs it will be entirely different, but that doesn't mean IU isn't legit. They deserved it with wins at Oregon, Iowa, IL, and last night..
