I do have a gut feeling the committee will take the safe gut pick and go with Miami if it comes down to it. They will sleep better at night if they do it due to the Head to head and I think that’s what they do. We need some extra (Bama gets beat up) help imo. Hope I’m wrong.

why aren't the two guys in the booth talking about how if UGA wins then the last spot comes down to Miami and Alabama as our irish would move to the 9th spot

ESPN owns the SEC's and ACC's media rights and not ND's

Right, but it still doesn't make sense unless the conferences are demanding they do this. Notre Dame will bring a lot more eyeballs to ESPN's playoff broadcast than Miami.

They own the playoff, and Notre Dame in the playoff is worth more than ACC regular season.

True, but I think there's a protecting of property component in there, as well.

And I think they're all in on building drama for tomorrow's picks show, too.

Calling it now: Bama loses and both Miami and ND get in.
Four SEC teams is enough when only one of them have a legit shot at winning it all.
I would say two (A&M and Georgia), but that is also what I hope happens. Let Bama lose big and prove they are not a title contender while us and Miami could still be.

Go slay that Bama dragon, Kirby
Sharp money seems to be on Bama, I'm a tad perplexed to the point I may not bet it.

I had UGA -2.5 thinking it was gonna go to 3. So I had to get creative with some friends to wiggle out ..pray for me if it lands on 2

Because nobody thinks this?

The odds on Bama missing the playoffs are much longer than the odds of them losing currently.

But they should. A decisive Bama loss, on heels of losing to Oklahoma and scraping by Auburn just proves they are not title contenders, while Notre Dame and Miami would be.

Well, Alabama has owned Kirby Smart, I don't know how much of an impact that would make.
From talking to a buddy, they feel Ty is the best player in the field and UGA just lacks any true star power outside of Branch and Frazier...who aren't all that amazing. We shall see, I'm still hoping UGA wins but got a tad spooked and don't wanna ruin my high right now.

Yes - this is extremely important imo. They wont leave the ACC out.

Yes. John Brice's theory is that if Duke wins, they'll find a way to get Miami in so the ACC has a team.
Maybe, but also the committee can do whatever it wants. It could put Duke in if they really wanted to. Who is gonna complain? JMU? Who fuckin' cares? I agree though, it's just cleaner if UVA wins, but I'm not personally convince the committee who left 13-0 FSU out of the playoffs (I get it, different circumstances, but still) is going to scheme to make sure the ACC gets a team in all of a sudden.

Considering all the talking heads calling for us to drop out, I don’t think we would be -500 to get in right now (as we are on FanDuel) if it was likely. If it was lower I’d be more concerned. We’ll see.

The point is, narratives matter. And the bullshit narrative is why "nobody thinks this." So why not introduce a much more reasonable narrative?

The only reason why Palmer and Tess kept focusing on the possibility of Miami leapfrogging ND is because they now expect BYU to drop in the rankings due to their 27-point loss. Why wouldn't they take the next logical step and speculate that a double-digit Bama loss would also drop them, therefore making the conversation more about the last spot going to Miami or Bama rather than Miami or ND?

The reason why they didn't do that is the problem. It doesn't hurt their bottom line to speculate about ND being left out, but it would if they speculated about Bama.
