There should be a rule that failing to win your conference championship means exclusion. Winning doesn't guarantee anything, but losing a conference championship guarantees that you're definitely not the best of your region, let alone the nation.

You could make a case that the national championship game should be a tournament of champions but the elephant in the room is that we’re like 95% of the reason that couldn’t happen.
