It would quiet the bedwetters fretting about the Penn State job, for one thing.

Given all the other extensions announced lately, I’m a little surprised we haven’t. (Vandy, also private, announced Lea’s deal last week for instance).
But we do things our own way. And there’s been no legit smoke of Freeman entertaining any interest. So it’s probably fine.

Well, Lea was attached to way more jobs and rumors than Freeman. There were some (completely fabricated) rumors and wishes by PSU and UF people over a month ago, but those have been quiet and there's no real movement (other than on PSU 247 and in Eville's mind) with Freeman to anything. Vandy had to get out in front of it all because it wasn't an absolute given that Lea wouldn't take another gig.

Seeing all of these big extensions, how soon before those don't really matter anymore? I mean lets say Bama came open in a few weeks and they really set their sights on say, Cignetti, does anyone really think that extension is actually an obstacle? I bring him up specifically because he has an Alabama connection and iirc when he signed that extension it was only like a $15M buyout for him to leave for another job. That doesn't read "locked in forever, totally unavailable," it just reads that the asking price went up some.

Leaving the team he has coming back next year for the GIANTS is crazy. NFL jobs come open all the time, and he can wait for a better one

edit - Also, as a UConn basketball fan who grew up/lives in CT, it is pretty annoying having a coach that seemingly always is on deck for being poached. But Hurley turned down the Lakers and the Knicks in back to back years, so hopefully my luck can continue

Was referring to Shefty. If he continues to have success, his name will always be discussed. Hope the contract rumored has been signed. Some of you are in denial that Notre Dame is the only place the will ever coach. Truly wasn't trying to start any drama, just pointing facts that it could happen sooner then we think.
