Can't wait to be done with the Miami crying or at least having some finality to the matter between our 2 teams after tonight.

Their best win is objectively better than ours, but if Navy gets ranked that will be 2 ranked wins vs. their 1 after Pitt and SMU drop out. The remaining wins, especially against common opponents essentially even out in my mind. GC, SOS and SOR are all very similar. Sure they have head to head but if that game was played again, it likely would go very differently at the end of the season vs. beginning of the season, and it essentially was a toss up at the time as we tied the game late in the 4th quarter. Regardless, call it a 50/50 proposition at best for them.

The biggest tiebreaker then is the losses. Ours are to FEI 10/11, theirs are to FEI 32/34. Ours are to SP+ 8/9, theirs are to SP+ 27/30. Sagarin is 6/9 (nice) vs. 21/27. FPI 7/10 vs. 24/29. It's not comparable. Case closed.
The thing is, I actually think Miami is better than OU, Bama, or BYU (and they're certainly better than a Kiffin-less OM), but you know you have to handle your business against the teams you should beat. Once you get two losses you are the mercy of fate and the playoff committee and ND is no different. We're not locked in yet and a path exists for us to be left out, too. It sucks, but 2 losses puts you in that place.

At this point, I want them left out just because what entitled assholes they (and everyone remotely affiliated with them) has acted like. You have the Governor of Florida and Secretary of State out there lobbying the committee. It is out of control.

Go back to the BCS where you don't have corruptible computers and it's harder to influence the coaches/media at large. Having a small group of biased people that has to go on TV every week and defend their subjective rankings is a joke. Having a TV network in charge of the whole thing is doubly a joke.

You’re kidding yourself if you think ND fans wouldn’t be doing the same if the shoe were on the other foot.
Didn't say they wouldn't, I'm just saying I would be embarrassed by it and would want no part of it. And if my HC ever got on a national TV interview and tried to strong arm the committee by invoking fucking television ratings and not playing good teams in the future while we were sitting there with 3 losses like Sark is doing with UT, well I would really question if he was the right man for the job.

Wait until they start bitching about the ND AD and Trump being buddies and golfing together

I think we'd be incensed, I do not think we would have this kind of coordinated media/political lobbying effort.
I agree with this, too. We wouldn't have all of ESPN and every major talking head plus the fucking Secretary of State and governors of states wailing about this injustice. Maybe the Pope would speak up?

I’d certainly hope our public affairs team would be aggressively making the case.

On media, I suspect there are a lot of incentives to write the this is bullshit story and fewer to write the this is fine story.

It would be us yelling into the void not almost every single bigtime sport journalist. I have some theories but they are mostly bannable offenses lol

Miami needs to bitch about Oklahoma, Bama, Ole Piss, BYU/TTech loser and Duke/UVA instead of ND. They share the best win with TAMU beating ND - anyone who watches any CFB knew that before the drama ensued last week.

When you look at likelihood of laying an egg - ND has been the most consistent all year. Showed up vs TAMU and Miami taking their best shots with a number of breaks going against them in a loss. Destroyed pretty much everyone else. Proven commodity - going to give anyone in the field a game on any given day. All of other teams CAN play great and compete at that level but outside of OSU the odds of laying an egg go from 10% to 33% as you roll down the line. Throw in superior ratings draw and committee simply isn't leaving ND out.

I get it - a few decades of battered fan syndrome will do that to you.

I get Miami’s argument, but it’s a 12 game schedule. You know who else in the top 25 has 2 losses to unranked teams. Virginia and Arizona.

Head to head is one game, two bad losses is 2 games.

Miami eliminated themselves just like Texas did. The issue with both isn’t scheduling a hard OOC game it’s losing to teams you should beat handily like Texas losing to Florida. Texas loss to Florida is why they won’t be in.

If you blindly look at every frichan metric, ND is in over Miami, and should be ahead of Oklahoma. It’s not hard

I think there's a real chance they both jump ND, but saying it's because Bama covered a 5-6 point spread against a bad Auburn team is one of the worst takes I've ever seen.
Bama may jump ND, Miami has a zero % chance. Take it to the bank.

If we get jumped by Bama who squeaked it out against an abysmal Auburn team with a QB who was legitimately afraid to be out there, woof.

Bama got whipped by Florida state. That might be the worst loss in the top 25

No metric states bama should jump us

Yes, I realize that's what everyone feels is going to happen. It's dumb that it might.
It’s really not dumb considering who each team has played, won, and lost against. The A&M loss to Texas is going to hurt the Irish a bit. Both teams two losses and Bama with the better win, worse loss, better SOS, more wins against ranked opponents, etc. At some point with this ridiculous committee, who you beat matters more than who you lose to. Not going to matter that much tonight as the SECCG makes it a moot point. Bama wins they jump higher and if they lose they may be on the outside looking in.
