Sure, and to be super clear I agree with that. I want us to make the playoffs because I believe we can win the playoffs.

I’m just not sure we have one of the ten best resumes in the country this year. At the very least, I can see the arguments for other teams, especially if Miami blows Pitts doors off tomorrow.
They haven't been really that big on resumes this year. TBH if they were Alabama would probably be ahead of us already.

It had them at 6th when they were undefeated, and their top 30 wins include us and a handful of teams sitting near 30 (LSU, Auburn, Missouri, South Carolina) at least three of whom are dogs tomorrow. They’re going to drop significantly.
To what? 9? 10? They aren't going to drop to 20 or something.

Is there a chance Texas jumps Miami with the win? I mean, I know it's a long shot, but they've got wins against Oklahoma, undefeated A&M, and Vandy which is infinitely more impressive than anything Miami's done...plus their losses were close ones against #1 OSU, Florida (Not ideal), and a bit of a stinker against a Top 10 Georgia. I know it's a long shot...but the Miami hatred would be hilarious.

Resume comparison for ND and Texas:

ESPN SOR: ND 12/UT 13
ESPN GC: ND 5/UT 18
ESPN AVGWP: ND 6/UT 45
ESPN SOS: ND 34/UT 10
SP+: ND 5/UT 23
FEI: ND 4/UT 21
Sagarin: ND 2/UT 15

Wins: ND #17, #22, #25? (Navy)/ UT #6ish, #8, #14
Losses: ND #6, #13/ UT #1, #4, unranked

Their losses pull down all their metrics, and they don't even really look that good even when they win, despite the multiple ranked wins. I really don't think it's a concern guys.

Sure Texas has Arch but he stinks it up half the time; in this game he did nothing until the 4th qtr
Alabama has good wins but also bad losses

The Committee has shown again and again they want teams in as much as possible that are playing well and consistently
ESPECIALLY at the end of the season

A guy could make a fortune selling those mattress covers specifically for all the bed wetters here

I’m an Indy native, so you’d think I know a lot of IU football fans. Nope. I know one and he’s die hard. He can also out drive me off the T box by about 50 yards.

He shoots the shit straight, and has no problem admitting that he/IU wants no part of ND.

Realistically the SEC is just a slog of 9-3 / 10-2 type teams

See below from Sargarin going into today - UGA and A&M are gonna take a hit, so ND will be as much of a favorite over the #1 team in the SEC (~5 points to UGA as UGA is to the #8 team in the conference, Tennessee).

As others have mentioned, scheduling disparities make parsing out the top teams pretty tough.

Miami beat us which is equally or more impressive as any of Texas’s wins.

Penn State as the number 12 team seems like a huge problem for this methodology.

It would be better for us had Miss. State and/or A&M won yesterday.
It would be better for us if Pitt and/or Auburn win today.
But none of that changes the fact that we're clearly one of the ten best teams in the country, and we will be fine.
The only game that worries me is BYU-TTU next week. And that worries me a lot less if TTU were to lose to West Virginia today.
So go Mountaineers.

There is a strong chance ND jumps Oklahoma this week even if both teams win. The committee rightly believes ND is one of the best teams in the country and wants them in the field. This is the way to ensure it before conf champ weekend.

I'd like to see ND beat Stanford much like IU beat Purdue last night. Away from that, what other permutations are we looking for today? Obviously, Pitt bringing out the steel curtain would be fun. It's freezing today!

I think ND gets in the CFP as a lower seed and if I am the CFP field I wouldn't want to play ND.

Beat Stanford by 30+ and it would be hard to jump us. I’d be a lot more worried if we needed to do the jumping.
