Currently enjoying this one. Good for those who enjoy taking things slow, though you can absolutely cruise through if that's your preference.

This actually looks fun. I checked out that game "stray" when it was free for a bit and I actually thought about buying it to finish but never did.

No FF tactics players here yet? The remaster just came out and is excellent.

I've played the shit out of FF Tactics since the late 90s. I just finished Tactics Ogre Reborn recently, but I kept wanting to compare it to FF Tactics (Even though Tactics Ogre obviously came first). I plan on getting it at some point even though I've still got my original copy and I have it on my RetroPIE too, but I'll probably wait for a discount like usual.

What's changed from the original version? I heard they didn't add the extra content from the later releases possibly?

Nice!

Yeah it's a very subtle coat of paint over the base game, really. Graphics enhanced but still pixel-y. Voiceovers. Niceties like auto-saves and fast-forward in battle, etc.

Same great game, just...a little greater, and playable on PC.

Somehow never played GTAIV beyond the first few hours, and it’s on sale on Xbox Store for $7, so grabbed that and have been playing here and there.

Gameplay is actually nice. I love that it’s not easy to just fly around the city in a car, you actually have to use the brakes and avoid riding the buildings and other cars like guardrails, or else risk flipping your car or ejecting yourself from the vehicle.

Combat is okay, though the cameras and control response are frustrating when you’re trying to shoot from cover.

Took a break from Red Dead Online for a bit after I picked up a new game on steam. A nice fun little organic/grid less city/village builder called "foundation".

Quite fun and very entertaining.

*Warning, very cartoonish style but very fun and addictive.

Couple buddies convinced me to buy helldivers and play with them. Not really an online shooter guy but I have to admit it’s a lot of fun

Helldivers is a decent game. A lot of players got disillusioned with it after the developer struggled with the balancing and the level creep. They would release a new War Bond, fans would find maybe one or two things they really liked from said War Bond after purchase, then before the next War Bond gets released the developer would nerf said items that people liked. Rinse and repeat...a lot. Pissed off a lot of people. Then there was the whole Sony scandal and review bombing. Can't remember seeing a smaller developer grow a game so fast to crazy levels only to have it tank faster. It's still a good game mind you, just kind of sad it was mismanaged in it's first 6 months.

I'm not sure I ever finished GTA IV. I just never really liked the storyline and the Nico character felt a bit bland I guess. It was hard going from GTA San Andreas to GTA IV imo, felt like a step back. GTA V story was pretty good too. I actually just replayed it over the last few weeks. It's kind of funny to see some of the humor that existed 12 years ago that wouldn't fly today. Aside from about a billion n-word drops from Lamar, there's the mission where you save him from the sawmill and he says: "You pray to your White man God, homie. I’m going to the giant plain beyond where the buffalo keep roamin’ and the little squaw bitches want me to nut on they face all day" I about spit out my drink

Finally decided to get KCDII. It is definitely a cleaner, more polished looking game compared to the first installment. Grinding early on is... grinding. Still, knowing the mechanics from the first game makes it a bit easier.

Got sucked into Where Winds Meet. Fun MMO, free and gigantic. Combat is great and th only problem I have with it is a very difficult to navigate UI.

They've pulled out of their nosedive, but a lot of damage was done. Adding the alien faction helped recover some.

The biggest pull of that game for us older gamers is that we're finally playing alongside the tweaked-out kiddies who live and breathe CoD, rather than trying to beat them. I've had only one or two bad experiences jumping online to play since it was released. I can't say the same for a lot of other online games. I do want to try out Arc Raiders (another extraction shooter).

I've just played through Dispatch. What a great experience. It's basically playing a movie with branching choices, like classic TellTale games. Great story, great writing and of course, amazing voice acting (it's the same people who voice the absolutely awesome Legend of Vox Machina on Amazon Video).

Same, I honestly gave up playing a lot of the competitive FPS games because you end up getting fucked one way or another. First 3-6 months I'd do great because nobody knows the game and few people are streaming anything bad like exploits, hacks, whatever. Then you start dying to wall glitchers, or guys hacking memory for infinite health, or whatever. It's just not fun after that. I'd rather play a co-op with buddies, way more fun than playing with randoms and I know the enemy isn't going to fuck with us (At least unfairly). For that reason I wouldn't mind getting back into Helldivers.

I tried getting back into GTA Online with my brother a few weeks ago, basically starting from scratch. When I quit playing like 11 years ago the heists were still pretty glitchy. You'd get disconnects all the time, errors that would crash the game, lots of wasted time and frustration. Imagine my surprise in 2025 I'm running the Cayo Perico heist and apparently there's a glitch where the host can leave just before the end and they keep all the money for themselves while you just spent 40+ minutes and get nothing. Thanks, Rockstar! Some things never change.

Didn't do a write up for this one yet, but about a month ago I played an older space game for the first time, Rebel Galaxy. Had this one on my Steam wishlist for SEVERAL years before I finally pulled the trigger at a ridiculously low price. Apparently GoG gave it away for free like in 2021, I missed that though. I ended up spending about 15 hours playing through the campaign. It could have been longer, but my time was a bit limited as the kids' sports were taking up a lot of my time. About halfway through the game I ended up skipping some of the random mission grind by hacking some cash to my character so I could purchase ships and parts sooner.

The game is an arcade style space shooter, but you can also do mining and trading. It's not a super in depth space sim, and I typically prefer space sims I can utilize a joystick, but it wasn't a bad little game. The game was first released a decade ago and the reviews are still Very Positive all these years later. Even though it's a bit dated the graphics are still beautiful, there's lots of options for customizing your ships, and the combat is generally fun. It's a bit different from some arcade style shooters as it employs a more nautical approach to combat. You don't fire from the front of your ship like in a Star Wars game or other space sims, it acts like an old school battleship where turrets fire from the port or starboard sides of your ship. It makes combat somewhat more interesting, although I find I'm constantly turning the camera a bit to get a better look at who I'm attacking. There are forward firing missiles, mines, and other configurations but your port and starboard turrets are your main form of attack.

So the combat is decent for a little arcade shooter. There's a bit of a storyline, but it's not amazing. It's decent for a smaller Indy dev. There's plenty to do in the game aside from bounties, trading, mining, and pirating. You can also salvage lost tech that can be used on your ship. You can join factions and unlock new items. There's a lot of different systems to travel to. More than anything I love a space game where I can outfit a ship and tweak it thousands of ways. I'm always looking for better setups, weapons, configurations that are more efficient.

The one hidden gem in this game is the music. The soundtrack is a ton of blues rock and indie rock, some of the tracks are actually really great. It gives you a bit of a space cowboy feel as you're blasting targets into smithereens. I'd give the game a B just on it's own given it's well made for a small developer, but I'd give the soundtrack an A easy.

in my opinion no war game has ever been anywhere near as good as the original Medal of Honour (Frontline). That ticked all the boxes.
