They have a good defense, and a kicker so…

Just saying it won’t be easy. I’d rather ND play Georgia, TAMU, Texas, or anyone in the big ten than Bama or Oklahoma. They’re both really good teams.
So you'd rather play Oklahoma than the team that beat Oklahoma 23-6?

Does anyone actually think Oklahoma would beat us? The committee won’t either. This will be fine.
I’d be more worried about the ACC or Big 12 getting two bids, but the way all that is trending it seems unlikely.
I don't think they'd score more than 10 points on offense. They looked like shit against Bama, too. Just got crazy lucky. There are a handful of schools that just win every close game this year and it's wild.

Oklahoma does seem to have a good defense. They've also only topped 30 points against a P4 team once this season. I'd note we also have a good defense. I'd like our chances in that game. You'd rather play Ohio State than Oklahoma?
Honestly I feel it’s a wash. I’m not sure who I’d prefer us to play. The path of least resistance comes to mind, but I feel the same way about Ohio State as I do Indiana. They both have good QB’s. If we could get solid pressure every game I’d feel a lot more confident in this team. They do seem to be getting better at the right time.

Anyone in the B1G? Even OSU? Nah. I'd rather play Bama or OU than OSU.
Ohio State is literally the only team that is a bad matchup for us because they are the only school where we can't cover their receivers consistently with man coverage. AND their defense is nasty.

Every other team in the top 12 has a flaw somewhere or some place where we match up well.

We shall see. I’m not saying the SEC is head and shoulders above the rest but there are some dangerous teams. Bama this year and last is still a very good team. Oklahomas defense is obviously very good. I do not believe A&M would destroy Oklahoma. I see what I see.

I might still be “Kelly Bit”, possibly, and understandably? Either way, I like our team, I just don’t necessarily know how good we are. Not yet anyhow. At this point in my life I’m not sure what it’s going to take to feel like
“We’re Back”. We are good, and it’s been fun and exciting. Including all of last season. But Northern Illinois still taste bad. Cautiously optimistic I guess.
We are now as good as Denbrock and Carr are. Ash is now the truth and Denbrock smells a lot like Brian Kelly. He is old school and lacks all imagination in his plays and playcalling. Carr has to make better decisions with the ball. His INTs are the worst kind. Fix these things and you have results like the Arkansas game which made us look like a top 1 or 2 team.

Alabama getting beat was also an excellent outcome
the more two loss teams there are means that there will be three loss teams in the playoffs
and that will push us up as a seed
don't let anyone bring ya down. your right and its beautiful

I could see them jumping us and I wouldn't complain, but I'm also not sold that it automatically happens. Did they have a better win than us? Yes, but our win was over a ranked opponent and we demolished them with total game control basically from the opening to closing whistle.
They have worse losses than we do and we have been trending up every game since game two. All double digit wins and dominating D in every single game. Win two more games convincingly and we are on a 10 game winning streak. How many teams will be able to say that besides Ohio State and James Madison?

we are using the rpo offense right. That means Carr has the ball and decision at the los.

Ole Miss looks like shit. Imagine the bitching in Dixie if ND stays ahead of Okie and jumps both Bama and Ole Miss.

I just think Oklahoma is inconsistent. Which can also be said for most of the teams this year. But they’re good enough to concern me in a head to head when they're on. I think given the chance again, we win against Miami, and TAMU. But Pitt, and Navy are not Bama. We won’t wear down a Bama or Oklahoma in the same manner. I do think all of them are beatable, including Georgia.

We did have a QB sneak tonight that I wasn’t expecting. That was a nice change.

Maybe, I just don’t feel they’re great this year. I’d rather play this years OSU, than last. Maybe I’m selling them short, 🤷‍♂️. I just don’t see where they’ve really been tested.

I feel like this year's OSU is with lesser RBs, but better WRs and better QB. And defense is equally as nasty. I want no part of them in playoffs.

I mean chucking it on 4th & inches was standard Kellyball
It was dumb as hell, but it's not what Kelly does and also not what Denbrock likes to do. Denbrock historically likes to use QB run game on 4th and short & 3rd and short. He did it with Jayden Daniels, Leonard, and others. He is pissing down his leg right now because Carr isn't a runner so he can't go to his comfort blanket.

Denbrock also likes to take shots down the field which Kelly has not done with exception of when Denbrock has managed his offense and arguably one year at Cincinnati.

Look at the splits for 4th & short and 3rd & short during the end of the Kelly tenure and more often than not he was just running the ball straight ahead.

Carr is not an ideal denbrock QB. We were unstoppable in the red zone last year because that is denbrocks go to. You have numbers with a mobile QB and we also don't have the tes this year to run 12 personnel. We are using Pauling as a lead blocker on some plays.

But Carr has shown he has adequate enough ability to be useful in these situations.

How funny would it be to see USC jump Miami? It could happen after USC got a ranked win over Iowa.

Is a drop to 10 possible?

The 10 spot seems more ideal: TTU and then IU instead of UO and then OSU

With Texas losing convincingly, I don’t think it matters what they do against A&M, they’re out.

These teams are surely in:
OSU
Indiana
A&M
Ole Miss
UGA
Winner of Oregon/USC
Texas Tech
Notre Dame

Teams that are likely but not locks/uncertain
Alabama if they take care of business against Auburn
Oklahoma if they don’t blow it
ACC champion
James Madison?

Need major help
Miami
Vandy
Utah
Whoever plays Texas Tech in B12

I don’t see any other teams able to sneak in at this point. The only true chaos scenario is if Texas Tech loses B12

What happens if SC beats Oregon and finishes 10-2. Would be interesting where us, Miami, SC, and Oregon would be slotted if we all finish 10-2.

Agree, if everything goes chalk. But there are a couple upsets still out there for the top 10

I do worry about that Miami head to head a bit. If they look dominant here on out, that could be an issue.

USC over Oregon is the best possible one game result we could have. They had both safeties and the LT Paige go down against Iowa though.

If USC makes the CFP in a year in which they lost to ND in South Bend…..what the fuck would they still complain about

I legitimately think that he originally intended to run Carr more and then after Week 1 was like "this guy is not going to make it through the season with this kind of gameplan, also it doesn't play to his strengths"

One of his biggest issues right now is that the pass calls in short yardage and goal-to-go aren't fooling anyone and aren't working. Far too often they are single route kind of plays where if it's covered you have NOTHING. The play is dead.

I think they could try spreading everyone out and trying some different plays, especially if it means getting a 1-on-1 opportunity for Fields. But in general, just scrap everything they have and start over. You have two games here to "practice."
