Chip Kelly at Oregon style.
Same church different pew in my opinion. I think Kelly at Oregon was a ton of lateral stuff to get small, quick guys in space. That's not what I envision for ND in the run game.

You can go 4 wide and still be able to run counter, ISO, power and read option without 8 guys in the box.

You cannot go 4 wide and run the ball with these unless your qb can run

Right. Not to mention, if Denbrock switched to this in November with three games left, I'm guessing two dozen slapdicks on this message board would have strokes regardless of how it turned out.

Let's stay healthy for the Holidays, everyone. FFS.

That is why we are in 11 personnel so often. Eli can go out in a 4 open formation but we prefer him off the ball and as TE OR inline TE. So much more you can do with the run game in 11 personnel...(or 12)

Let's look at rushing yards per game and average yards per carry on Sunday if you take the games vs Miami, A&M, and Pitt.
Sounds good.

All Boils down to an undeniable fact: they're not going to run the ball with four WR. The current five starters are a Next Man In patchwork group and they're doing fine. Just keep winning games.

I only compared to Iowa, but we're better at total offense (duh), but also total rushing, yards per rush, rush yards per game, total rushing TDs, fewer sacks, better 3rd down %, tougher schedule... what the fuck

You can start earning your pay check at anytime. Great pass blocking unit terrible run blocking unit. Fix it!
Qualify what is needed to earn a paycheck?

Now also take into the fact that 2 of their top 8 OL transferred in the offseason.
Then we lost one of our 3 best OL in a off the field incident.
Then we lost our starting center for the season.
Then we lost, probably, our best offensive linemen after USC.

No excuses but take context into account. They started out rough, as expected but they've done an excellent job with all things considered. They are a semifinalist for the Joe Moore award with that attrition? I know we have two excellent RBs who help make up for mistakes but there pass pro has been really good.

I just want to know what you expect given where we're at in the season.

If you keep the experience you don’t start off rough and injuries don’t hurt nearly as much. The 3 that left will all most certainly get drafted. You don’t let NFL experience walk away. You pay them and tell them they will get the snaps. A 5th year or senior is more valuable than a future first round sophomore or even junior. Maybe with very rare exceptions, very rare. That’s how I see it any way. If ND has the 3 that left ND is most likely undefeated right now. They lost so much experience and leadership with those loses.

Coming back to compete for a spot that is not guaranteed will do more for culture as opposed to promising a starting position to three players in a position group and telling those behind them, “no matter how you perform in the offseason, these are our guys.” Those that left might have gotten a guaranteed starting spot and maybe more money than ND could offer. Tough to blame them for leaving then. But it likely goes against MMFF’s culture that he’s built.

Undeniable fact lol, calm down bud. I just tossed up an alternative idea after 9 games of watching this OL get their shit kicked in by (largely) subpar defenses. It's also an idea that eases the pressure on the patchwork OL and gives your most talented player (Love) more opportunities and more running lanes.

That poor early season form and Schrauth getting injured is costly here. The other lads have to look at this list and get angry about it.

I don’t think they should add a wrinkle now at all so I agree with my cranky Italian brother on that,… but the idea that you can’t run out of 10 personnel is wild, and no you don’t need Marcus Mariota to do it

Yeah. Uh huh.

Also, my television must be severely screwed.

Agree that the experience is more valuable than the potential, but in this day and age I don't really know how you really persuade guys to stay when they're good enough to start on a playoff-caliber team, but not assured of a spot on ours. Even if they love our culture, it's a huge ask and probably more than is reasonable to expect.

Yeah, what could possibly go wrong there?

There were likely discussions that took place with those players, at length and on more than one occasion leading up to those respective departures. Nobody here has a clue what took place behind closed doors. At the end of the day, you can't force anyone to do anything. These guys aren't slaves or property. They're not even considered employees. It's not the NFL. No contracts. Scholarships are year to year.

100% disagree they'd be undefeated. Those three guys do nothing about the conservative play calling against Miami and the Swiss cheese secondary against TAMU. That dog of your narrative simply doesn't hunt for me.

I am clearly missing something that there are a couple of dudes out here who think this OL is shit. I don't see it.

Once upon a time when a sleeping giant was starting to wake, there was a quarterback who was bound for greatness. Through the journey, this valiant warrior suffered a severe injury to his ankle. Rest assured said BK the Fairy Godmother. This is your team when you are able to return to battle.

ND didn't even make the top 10 for the Joe Moore award this year.

On the Thursday II podcast this topic came up. Sampson said when it comes to short yard or goal line, the 12 package isn't getting results. That group couldn't say with any confidence that the ND O line could win even matchups vs Pitt running, let alone when Pitt has more hats in the box.

To protect CJ and stress the defense more, I would even flirt with bringing Minchey in at QB in those situations.
