247 put out a report saying BK would want Sparty if/when it opens
I don’t believe it for a second. I believe this is misinformation intentionally leaked to give some “assurance” to LSU that they won’t be on the hook for the entire buyout and will speed a resolution.247 put out a report saying BK would want Sparty if/when it opens
Nick Marsh, come on down!247 put out a report saying BK would want Sparty if/when it opens
That's a great point. He would get the 30M, probably 15M payments over two years, and then a 5x5? deal to MSU. Would be 55M in a 5 year period, which his finance team would beg him to take.I don’t believe it for a second. If BK would truly be interested in coaching again he would’ve taken the 30 million offer with the offset waived.
I do think you're correct that it was very, very important for ND's brand that he fail spectacularly and that Marcus Freeman succeed how he did. It basically torpedoed the narrative that you "can't win big at ND" and that there was some sort of ceiling.I never hope that fat fuck wins … the way he left Notre Dame and tarnished her name on the way out … we don't have the environment or the resources to compete for championships… he wanted a new challenge, despite never being inning anything of note.
He could have left with dignity, with class. But, no… He intentionally and purposefully took shots at Notre Dame on the way out. He tried to push the blame on Notre Dame for his lack of championship caliber success all the while, it was solely on him. Look what his successor has done… A first time coach has rallied and resurrected the program to levels he never could achieve or attain. Freeman is fighting for another playoff birth, while Kelly, the loser, was fired before even getting into the month of November
I get where you're coming from, but he didn't tarnish her name. He may have raised some doubts with his "can't win at ND" BS, but any tarnish or doubts there might have been was wiped away with Kelly's firing and more importantly MF's success..I never hope that fat fuck wins … the way he left Notre Dame and tarnished her name on the way out … we don't have the environment or the resources to compete for championships… he wanted a new challenge, despite never being inning anything of note.

I think you hit the nail on the head. He knows how to build a winning program, but not a championship caliber program.I firmly believe now and MF has shown that there is a BK ceiling and not a ND ceiling. I might go so far as to say the BKs system was the ceiling.
I think the ceiling on a BK Era team in a 12 team playoff is last year's PSU team: get a lucky draw, beat two undermanned opponents, lose to the first real playoff team you play.I don't want to defend BK or anything but in his defense he had some stellar teams who would have made some noise in the playoffs.
Frankly, I don't think that's going to be an LSU problem. After the Franklin and Kelly fiascos, I think that buy-outs are going to go away. Perhaps a one-year severance or something with increases in annual salary. What LSU has to lose is the fact this will affect their ability attract big name coaches for some time after they see that the school will try to fuck you out of your buyout when they fire you 3.5 years into your megadeal. Why would a coach with other, comparable options, go to LSU when one day the governor could step in and fire you and then have the school turn around try to pay you less than half of your buyout?
I wish we could've seen that 2015 team at full strength AND with a good Defensive Coordinator. I genuinely think they could've won the Natty in that 4 team playoff at full strength and no BVG.I think the ceiling on a BK Era team in a 12 team playoff is last year's PSU team: get a lucky draw, beat two undermanned opponents, lose to the first real playoff team you play.
Would be fine for a 3 year deal but I don't see him wanting to get back into thisPer BetOnline, the odds of LSU getting Nick Saban have dropped from 75/1 to 2/1...I don't see Saban getting back into coaching. That would be one heck of an upgrade though.
That was probably the best overall BK Era team.I wish we could've seen that 2015 team at full strength AND with a good Defensive Coordinator. I genuinely think they could've won the Natty in that 4 team playoff at full strength and no BVG.
That offense! 4 1st rounders, 2 2nd, a 3rd, a 5th (who’s still in the league) and a 7th. Add Tillery, Day, Rochell, Romeo, Luke, Russell, Farley, and the best player in college, Jaylon Smith. That squad was absolutely wasted. That was probably the best overall BK Era team.
im gonna guess that that’s a nice little cash grab for betonline from LSU fans wanting it to happen.Per BetOnline, the odds of LSU getting Nick Saban have dropped from 75/1 to 2/1...I don't see Saban getting back into coaching. That would be one heck of an upgrade though.
He needs a coach to coach him In other wordsI think you hit the nail on the head. He knows how to build a winning program, but not a championship caliber program.
Joe Schmidt and BVG killed that team. Should've been 11-1 at worst with an opportunity to be 12-0 had the "bring your own guts" Clemson game gone the other way in the rain. Completely wasted ELITE OL + Jaylon Smith.I wish we could've seen that 2015 team at full strength AND with a good Defensive Coordinator. The injuries across the board that year were pretty difficult to overcome as well.Joe Schmidt and BVG killed that team. Should've been 11-1 at worst with an opportunity to be 12-0 had the "bring your own guts" Clemson game gone the other way in the rain. Completely wasted ELITE OL + Jaylon Smith.
I don't know, defense was always suspect that year. As close as ND was to being 11-1 or 12-0, they were just as close to being 7-5 or 8-42015 was the closest I think talent wise we were to the top of the sport until last year. Strong 2012-2014 classes (especially 2013) that we could capitalize on and build off of.
The more you look at the 2017-2021 seasons you get why BK left. He couldn’t get recruiting to where it needed to be, and he wasn’t willing to put in the work (or just wasn’t capable) of doing it. LSU being one of the easiest places to recruit in the sport was a logical fit considering that.
Talent wise, yes. That was BK’s best team on paper at NDI don't know, defense was always suspect that year. As close as ND was to being 11-1 or 12-0, they were just as close to being 7-5 or 8-4
Oh for sure, you can't argue that. I take back my initial reaction after I looked at the roster. I don't take back that they were almost coached to an 8-4 season. And the cherry was the typical ass kicking in a big bowl.Talent wise, yes. That was BK’s best team on paper at ND
This was true prior to Covid/NIL/Portal. I think he underestimated how much things were going to change.2015 was the closest I think talent wise we were to the top of the sport until last year. Strong 2012-2014 classes (especially 2013) that we could capitalize on and build off of.
