BK should take the rest of the year off. Lay-up. It could be the end of his coaching career or he could decide he can take a smaller school and turn it into something. Like Cignetti at Indiana.
It doesn't have to be the stressful jobs he has had for the last 15 years or so where there is big expectations.

I think he is probably just done. He will be 65.

Even with 50+ million in the bank, he's going to wake up tomorrow realizing that all of his previous P4 coaching stops hate him. Gotta be a little weird to be a very successful coach and not one school wants you around as retired coach emeritus.

You posted roughly 48 hours after he turned 64, but sure, I guess you can point out that he's gonna have another birthday in 363 days.

My wife went to LSU, this has been an interesting dynamic for the last few years to see play out. Just happy BK is gone entirely from my TV on Saturdays

Kelly wore so many faces on the sidelines Saturday. Looked totally engaged early, but once A&M got it in gear, it looked like he had checked out. His discussions with his coaches on the sideline make me question how involved he was with the gameplan and preparations during the week.

Pate acting like he’s revealing groundbreaking info. This is EXACTLY the same guy who was at ND. The one who barely knew his players, didn’t develop relationships with coaches, and couldn’t be bothered to recruit. Shame on LSU for not doing their due diligence on him. Their mistake was the best thing that could’ve happened to us! Pay up, LSU!

This is going to be the most expensive offseason ever, and at a time when the average person is paying a lot more on a day to day basis for everything from groceries to electricity bills. It's really kind of gross.

I can't say I feel a shred of sympathy for Brian Kelly. Or LSU for that matter.

There's a decent chance next fall that BK and Belichick are both unemployed and hanging out together in Nantucket.
Love that for them. Two 60-something dudes who got fabulously wealthy being world-class good at a job that has probably passed them by and stopped being fun. Now go enjoy your money, get out of the way, and let the next generation cook.

I am curious about the "real world" implications of this "duty to mitigate" clause that is in coaches contracts that requires them to seek another coaching job or a job in media.

If BK (through his agent) simply lets it be known that he really doesn't have any interest in coaching again, but would agree to do an interview if a school would like to talk. I'm assuming that would still allow BK to get his money.

If a school actually does ask for an interview and BK is just brutally honest and says "Listen, my heart really isn't in coaching anymore. If you hire me, I will likely put in the most minimal effort possible relying on my assistants to do all the work. If you are OK with that, then I guess you can hire me if you want".

I would think that it would be pretty hard for LSU to get out of the buyout even if BK has a "duty to mitigate".

I'm assuming that is based upon this tweet from Dellenger. I saw a couple of "news articles" that reported that the buyout was in fact $27 million and cited this tweet.

Sorry, I don't read his tweet that way. Heck, the tweet starts out with the word IF

This is only going to get worse. These schools will pay these coaches more money to win faster and if they don't they'll be fired sooner and the buyouts will be even more obnoxious than they are now.

There really is no end in sight at this point. Can't put the shit back in the donkey.

Especially now with Private Capital getting in the mix. It is now a ~diversifying asset class~ and the shittification has begun.
