I think Kelly’s biggest problem will always come down to genuine relationships. Saban could get in a guy’s face but at the end of the day, they respected him and felt he had their best interest at heart. You get none of that with Kelly. Kelly comes off as a guy who uses people to get somewhere. The majority of players just didn’t really know the guy. He’s coached for 30 years and I’m not really sure how many former players would go to bat for him

What network is going to willingly put his smug ass on tv? He’s not funny. He’s not engaging. He’s not someone people would like to watch. I actually tend to think he’s one of the few coaches that wouldn’t get swooped up by a pregame show or halftime show.

The sideline with the look on his face and his assistants says everything you need to know about the program.

The question…are there boosters willing to pony up $50M?

The most absurd thing about when BK was introduced at LSU wasn’t the accent at the basketball game. It’s when he told the team he was a players coach

Sometimes, a kid needs a little Batusi grinding from his purple-faced coach to post to his social media, and BK's there to deliver it.

Former players and assistant coaches for Saban speak of him as if he were a god, there's obviously a lot of love for him.

Former players and assistant coaches for BK don't really talk about him I've noticed.

Jeff Fox, D2 "Heisman" winner under Kelly, is a childhood friend of mine. He had good things to say when ND hired BK, though I don't recall specifics, and I certainly don't recall him saying anything positive about relational skills.

Saban seems to view relationships as something to develop and nurture. I think he always wanted to get people to reach their potential beyond what good it did for him.

BK strikes me as a guy who views most relationships as transactional.

This is spot on. I had a family member that played for him at Central Michigan. Heard many stories about him that really turned me off to him. Fast forward to when he was hired at Notre Dame....obviously I didn't like the hire after hearing how he was, but my love of Notre Dame football prevailed and I watched for a couple years until I finally couldn't take watching his purple faced screaming blaming everyone but himself, which is exactly what I was told was his calling card. I would read gameday threads on here, or check score on my phone as my only connection to ND football. Then finally one night rumor came out he was headed to LSU, and thank god it was true. I actually feel sorry for LSU fans that this fucking ompa loompa is their coach. They are a proud school, like us, that has been snowballed into believing he is a great coach. I wish him nothing but the worst, and an ass kicking every week, and it sucks that if he gets fired he'll still get a $50 million buyout. Thank god he is not on our sideline anymore

I remember people saying Brian Kelly could make for a good politician when he came to ND. But it just turns out that meant he’s an asshole.

Too much of a narcissist to disappear.
He’ll run for *cough—buy—cough* some MA State Legislature seat and milk the taxpayers there for the rest of his days. He’s publicly said he’d consider a career in politics (huge red flag by itself), and has pedigree there. This LSU gig is just filling up his election war chest, then he can golf on taxpayer dime for life.

Kelly's major in college was polysci. He thinks he has skills as a politician. And maybe he does. He's made a big bag from coaching, and the people paying him thought he was the solution to their problems. I suspect he will take his schtik elsewhere should he be fired. Politicians will politic

Eh. I live in Massachusetts, unlike BK who left Worcester when he was about 24. I don’t think people here would be much interested, nor him in us.

I didn't know that. Yikes. He gives off a strong alderman vibe with the unapologetic careerism, acting/fake voice routine, and not taking responsibility for stuff

If he loses - he will blame the public voters and campaign managers......

I saw a recent Barstool interview with Zach Martin and he was pressed on Kelly. You could tell he was uncomfortable and didn’t want to say how he truly felt. He passively said “I haven’t talked to him since I left” and then forced himself to say nice things about him that don’t really have anything to do with his coaching ability or character as a person. Pretty telling.

I remember Jeff Fox. I remember that team real well. (I live 15 minutes from GVSU)
