Having been stationed at Fort Riley for a year; their beer socks and too low of alcohol content. The only time I refused a beer was when I was stationed there
What year were you there?
It’s been long enough now, so I can probably tell this story (over 20 years)…
My unit used to travel to Riley and enter during the night & go straight to the helo hangers over by that huge hill. We would stay in the hangar (eat MREs there, sleep there, etc…) and never leave during the day. At night we would do exercises, war games, etc… in all the huge fields.
We didn’t wear patches or ranks or anything that could identify us or even what branch we were in.
Funny enough, my last time there, someone fired off a round into the clearing barrel while clearing their weapon, inside the hanger. LOL
My commander (a ND grad), and myself went over into Junction City in our civies to get pizzas for our entire unit (less than 50 of us), the last night we were there before he left to take command elsewhere.
I don’t plan on ever going back to Junction City….
