We’re already throwing out predictions for Sophomores? I’ll take it given he’s a future 5 star but man

I've never seen ND in the running/sign the top DL. Ever. I've very rarely seen them in the running for a top 5.

The 2026,2027+ classes are wildly different.

And 2025/2024 were excellent improvements.

Aaron Lynch is the only one I can think of in my recent memory. Probably have to go back to Lou's era to find others, yes?

Clowney was 1.1, but Lynch was ranked the #1 SDE and top 5 overall, I believe.

I remembered Lynch and Ishaq Williams and Tuitt. I thought they were in the top 10 range when the ND interest happened. Did Lynch make a big jump at the end of the cycle?

Lynch and Tuitt were the top 2 SDE by many that year

I double checked their 247 profiles and Lynch was #1 SDE and #6 overall. Tuitt was #3 SDE and #38 overall. And Ishaq was listed as #4 OLB and #45 overall. Did 247 buy Rivals? I can't remember. I thought I was looking at Rivals rankings earlier, but upon a second look, it's the 247 site. Anyways, point remains...from what I can recall, Veritate's OP is likely correct, in that ND is rarely (if ever) in the running for the #1 DL. Fakatou is currently #1 DL and #3 overall on 247.

*Is EDGE and OLB used interchangeably on 247? I noticed a shift in position group labeling.

Think On3 bought Rivals

In 1992, ND landed the entire Football News First-Team All-American DL: Mike McCullough, David Quist, Anthony Jones, maybe one more. It was basically the worst DL class ever.

In 1996, landed multiple First Team All-American DL, including Jason Ching and Brad Williams. Williams turned out to be a below average OL, whereas Ching was flat out bad at football like the '92 guys.

So much more in-person evaluation and testing goes on these days.

If he and Vaughn do reclassify you could be looking at a legit dream class on the Dline next year:
DE- Vaughn
DE- Jacobs
DE/DT - Fakatou
DT - Flanigan
DT - Parks
DT - Robertson

That doesn't even include Whitehead who had a great visit, Williams (DT from Cali that visited for II last summer) and several others. Jacobs definitely the least likely of the group as of current standing but I just get the feeling that he's a great culture fit and that wins out in the end.
