I’m not worried or losing sleep over it. The administration is playing football now, at least the best they can anyway.
If Freeman leaves they’ll find another stud.

I’d be a little nervous. You know freeman’s agents is fielding calls
I mean I get it because money talks but A) zero chance ND doesn't pony up and B) by definition any job opening is going to have had a losing season and is in a bad spot. I just simply don't understand why Freeman would walk away from a better job (than the majority of these openings and at the very least equivalent to the rest) and a better situation (a NCG appearance last season and a very strong playoff possbility this year) for a worse situation and a rebuild? Unless of course someone offers to make him the highest paid coach in the game and we just refuse to offer but I don't see that happening. We have everything rolling here and we're recruiting at levels not seen since Holtz walked the sidelines.

The only scenario that makes me uncertain is the NFL. I'm not sure if he wants to coach in the NFL but if he does there's no stopping him really. You just can't compare the two.

Agree 100%. As Steelhead said, it’s a good thing when other teams come calling, but it does make any rational person uneasy. Also, I wholly agree with you as well in regard to Freeman and the NFL as opposed to another college program. I think the NFL will be Freeman’s next landing spot when/if he decides to leave.

Idk … the angst is starting to trickle upward to the Baton Rouge native, Catholic High and LSU alum, AD Scott Woodward. No one is optimistic with Alabama, A&M, Arkansas, and OU left on the schedule.

Prior to yesterday, it was “we’re 5-1, have a lot to play for, and it could be a whole lot worse. Now, I really don’t know a fan that supports Kelly after yesterday …
fork… I think your Tigers take out A&M Sat night at home. The Aggies have beaten the cellar dwellers of the SEC thus far and quite frankly haven’t looked that good doing it. That Tiger defense is still legit and that Aggie QB is average at best. A win for the Tigers may not do any good for Kelly at this point but I like your chances here.

I think he knew his time at ND was limited. He kind of was always looking for an out since 2012, but nothing was biting. Then when LSU came along with a massive offer, he knew he would never get it at Notre Dame. He bounced, took their money, and now basically doesn't care if he wins or loses on the field, he's winning with an extra $100,000,000 in his pocket.

On paper it's easier to win a title at LSU than ND, but the game is played on grass and the Achilles' Heel to a team coached by BK winning a title is the fact that BK is their HC.

Deep down, in our souls, we knew he wasn't going to win a title. Deep down, Savvy Jack knew the same thing.

However, BK 2.0 was never going to get fired. 10+ wins a year and the playoffs every other year or so would have made everyone happy enough that he could have ridden it out as long as he wanted.
@thekid33 beat me to it. The machinery was in place for BK 2.0 to have 10-11 as long as he wanted at ND.

And never does not exist anymore in the playoff 12 team monstrosity. Any coach could draw SMU & Boise in the playoff and need only one single upset to win the national title.

No, you would need to win at least 3 games to win a national title. There's the first round, the quarterfinal, the semifinal, and the NCG. It's actually much harder for big game choke artists like Franklin or Kelly to win a title now. BK's best chance to win a title died when KSU got upset by Baylor in 2012.

LSU did ND a huge solid by taking this fraud off our hands. The one thing I'll never get over about BK is the guy couldn't recruit or develop a QB to save his life. I'm giving him zero credit for JD. He'll be done at LSU either this year or next, I'd bet my life.
I’m not disagreeing or being contrary, but he did bring in Daniels. It wasn’t like he was a hot commodity at the time.

Agents largely have their interests in mind and want to drum up the biggest deal so they get paid.
That’s correct. A long way from agents getting paid to Freeman pursuing these opportunities. Nobody should be nervous about him leaving for these current spots. Unless those people want to be “nervous”.

Yep. Assuming Freeman wants to win a national championship, Notre Dame is set up better for that in the next two-three years than any of these other open jobs. If you think it’s easier to win at Penn State or Florida…

Also we seem to be paying competitively now. There’s no (outward) sense of friction wIt’s the administration. No push or pull factors really.

The only college job that would make me nervous would be Ohio State and that doesn’t seem like it’s opening any time soon.

Unless Day bolts for the NFL
If Day hasn't left for the NFL yet, I don't see him going. Sure the psycho fringe of the OSU fanbase will want him gone until he beats Michigan 5-6x in a row, I think winning a national title and building a juggernaut again this season has bought him a lot of leash. Tressel and Urban only won one title at OSU, so one more puts him in rarified air for OSU.

I could be wrong but I bet Freeman knows or has been informed that if he can win a NC at ND, he’ll have the world by a string. No offense to other schools but ND is the most historic program there is & they haven’t won since the invention of the internet/social media. Other than the NFL, there’s nothing that tops that.

I want to thank BK for recruiting Freeman to South Bend as a DC instead of going to LSU.
I want to thank BK for taking the bag and going to LSU, but failing to bring Freeman with him.
Still waiting on a title, but last season was the best season I can remember because I was too young to really appreciate the '88 championship.

Yeah, the nerves aspect is conspicuously drummed up by the same circle who want to litigate after each BK loss about how the LSU community isn’t happy, doesn’t seem to be bringing them over the top etc.

I get the therapeutic aspect of coming and sharing the grief of what a BK tenure is like. But, MF is not BK. He had the opportunity to chose the big money southern school before and didn’t take it. If he didn’t want to go to LSU, why the hell would he want to go to Florida/PSU??

@Notre Dame Joe mentioned three games: 1) SMU, 2) Boise, 3) an upset.

This morning Brady Quinn mentioned that LSU was actually courting Riley before Kelly but Riley wanted USC. I guess we really owe Riley a "double" thank you.

It's pretty funny to see how anything positive about the guy is so triggering.
Triggering? I stated a fact. He has the most wins and losses of any ND coach. The dude was average. It’s funny that people think he did something amazing at ND. He didn’t. Dan Devine did more and was demonized by the fan base.
