They’ve largely been fine tonight. The blocking schemes are off. Can’t leave EMOL unblocked on a slow handoff
Largely, but too many times the defense end/or an outside backer just flys off the line and hits the running back almost immediately after getting the handoff. They’ve largely been fine tonight.
Idk if that’s so much scheme as good ID by the defense. That’s the chess match.Largely, but too many times the defense end/or an outside backer just flys off the line and hits the running back almost immediately after getting the handoff.
No, they just played a worse defense tonight.OL was much, much better tonight.
OK. But Miami's probably the best DL they'll play all year. Point is, Carr had time, and the running game mostly moved. I was worried about pass protection coming into this game but that part held up fine. No, they just played a worse defense tonight.
OL and the entire offense was good tonight. 40 points should lead to a blowout win.

Sad Like, don't like agreeing but agree. Some of this "disappointment" is because IE is lousy at assessing consistent OLinemen. Neither Knapp, nor Lambert, nor Wagner are yet consistent this year. It's why we needed Jagusah to give us THREE such consistent maulers rather than just two. Also, and this is the error the staff made, by inserting Jagusah as a GUARD with the idea that Knapp and Wagner would develop more at Tackle than they have, that decision ran off our superior Right Guard options (Coogan could have been offered the RG, as could have Spindler) and left us with a not yet ready Lambert et al. Also no real ready depth.
You are just talking about running the ball right? they have been very very good in pass pro.I still think that IE is "off" on our reasonableness in dreaming about what this line should be playing like.
We had all these half-injured/half-starting returners which should have foretold a winner unit. Then:
A. almost all the high quality reserves left the team, and the top predicted quality player got hurt.
B. We're left with a group from which almost every player has to be a hit, and hit high and stay healthy.
C. None of that happens. The veterans mostly DO NOT take the first year to second year step up.
Craig and Schrauth do; Wagner seems maybe to rise, but marginally, and then gets nagging injury.
Knapp does not have any sophisticated step up at all apparently, and may even regress. Lambert
is not ready to roll despite the walk-off-the-bus eye test. Abshur looks possible, but Rudolph disagrees.
D. Craig gets hurt, taking out our blocking coordinator. A near rookie has to replace him.
E. In the overview: this is a massive sucking piece of crap we're being dealt, with no quick fix or options.
Slightly more optimistic bottomline: All of our current OLine roster guys have physicality and at least raw talent.
We will be sort-of-adequate. We will NOT be "Great" here, like we should have been. We have to live with this.

And 3 transfers starting and thriving at power 4 teams. Can't stop giving props to the big guys.
... as to our troubles. We have LESS than two somewhat healthy groups of five walking bodies. (Teams typically have 15 options.)
That level of diminishment in numbers is NOT on the coach. He's not kicking these guys in the ACLs (or wherevers).
They're 21st in America in Total Offense with 30 offensive touchdowns in six games while averaging 7.18 yards per play.
The internet is truly a place where people just come to bitch about things. It's a giant junkyard of grievance. It explains so, so much about where we're at from a societal standpoint.

Flip side: We return everyone next year if we want them here. Would love to see better run blocking, but these guys are good, and will get better. This line is going to dominate next year. And 3 transfers starting and thriving at power 4 teams.
