Jane Goodall has passed away at 91. If you ever got the National Geographic magazines back in the day, you'll remember her studies of chimpanzees.
Most of what we know about chimps came from her. Until her years of research, we had no idea they used tools, hunted, nor anything about how violent or complex their social structure was. Some people found the following cartoon offensive, but by all accounts, she appreciated it and found it funny.

Was it Ms. Goodall ( played by Sigourney Weaver in the movie) who died at the hands of a Gorilla? Swear that happened. Google search would indicate nope.

Maybe getting that confused with the lady who raised a chimpanzee from infancy that ended up mauling her friend to death when he was 13 or 14?

RIP Jane.

Had front row seats when CBS broadcasted the playoff game against the Stars.

I don't remember what year it was but it was right after Market Square opened. My wife and I went to MSA to get some tickets. We looked down at the floor and Keller was shooting threes. He hit something like 25 in a row before missing. When he saw us watching, he stopped and came u to talk to us. Nice guy as you would expect.
That’s Fn awesome. The fact someone else remembers him! He was a good chucker! Loved the ABA.

He screwed up big time and made a disgusting, heinous mistake, but to off yourself … man … that’s tough.

Sadly, you read and hear about this happening all the time — not necessarily the suicide part, but tremendously gifted athletes in Louisiana who end up behind bars or never amounting to anything. So many kids in Louisiana and the Deep South that don’t have a chance from the moment they are born … so many shithead “parents” out there.
He was innocent.

In '69 when at Purdue, he and Rick Mount were probably the best backcourt combo in the country. Reached the NCAA CG.

I don't usually feel comfortable talking about my psychic powers, but it seems I'm among kin here. Isn't it great that we can read an article or a message board post about an alleged crime a thousand miles away and instantly know whether a given suspect is innocent or guilty? Most times, my psychic powers activate the moment I learn the suspect's skin color.

Most people think that when a person is charged by the police it means they are guilty. Its almost an automatic thing to think that, so it is good when as many people as possible counter that mistaken logic by asserting that they think the person is innocent.

I'm not sure one dumb assumption is best replaced with another dumb assumption.

You don't want to replace it rather cancel it out so there is neutrality amongst the jury pool which is hard to do but you have to try. I am always telling people "I am pretty sure so and so is completely innocent and the police investigation is corrupt" John Grisham agrees with that I think. Anyway, enough of this.

I want no such thing. I encourage people to steer clear of assumptions. Generally, finding jury members unfamiliar with a case is easy, and even when it's not, finding jurors who haven't made up their minds before the trial starts is easy.

You sound like a prosecutor. I disagree with all of this.

First, you tell me what I want. Then, when I correct you as to what I want and what I encourage, you disagree with me regarding my own personal experience.

So you not only openly encourage people to make assumptions in cases they know little or nothing about, but you believe people are incapable of knowing themselves. Fascinating.

That's not what he said. If you read the quote he said it's an automatic thing to think they are guilty so it's good that as many people as possible counter than logic.

You ended the quote prematurely. Yes, he was openly encouraging as many people as possible to make a wrongful assumption anytime anybody anywhere is charged with a crime in order to counter real or imagined assumptions in the other direction.

Of course, we can get into the fact that "He was innocent" and "I think he was innocent" are technically different claims, but reading T-Boone's words in context gives me the impression that he conflates these statements and promotes assumption. Nowhere has he advocated for curiosity, open-mindedness, investigation, or considering different possibilities.

Very interesting reddit thread from yesterday with multi-source video of the Lacy incident. It looks good for police and very bad for Lacy, indicating that he not only caused the crash and must've known he caused the crash, but that his first call afterwards went to a defense attorney. Typically hyper-liberal reddit seems to be taking the position that Lacy was guilty, all who presumed him an innocent victim of horrible police (in part due to assuming defense attorneys cannot tell a lie) should be deeply ashamed of themselves, and people should learn to slow their judgment going forward.

Top comment: "Man, this whole thing has been a lesson in disinformation."

If that quote doesn't sum up modern day America, I don't know what does.
