Does anyone actually sit down and watch SportCenter in 2025?
I would sooner dial up old SC episodes from the 90's on Youtube than I would watch a current version. In fact I kind of want to do that now for that sweet sweet nostalgia hit.

No one wants either. It's all antiquated. People stopped waiting until the next day to read about what happened the day before in the sports section of their newspaper when TV took over and you could watch highlights that night on SportsCenter. Now people don't want to wait to watch a wrap up show at the end of the night when they could just see the highlights as they happen on X/Insta/Reddit/etc.

When I take my car in for service, I'm usually the first appointment in the AM, so it's either that or the bullshit news channel they have playing when I get there. I change the TV to Sports Center, then I read.

Sit down and watch? Not really. Background noise while I get a tire rotation? Yes. Better than the alternatives.

I'd love for ESPN to get rid of the bottom line. Sometimes I want to tape a game that's on at the same time as a game I wanna watch live. The eye strain trying to avoid the score is unbearable. Everyone also now has a phone to lookup scores on so it's pretty outdated

I don't think I've watched anything on ESPN in several years other than the Heisman award show a few times, and college football games. All the rest has become pretty bad. It's been ages since I watched SC or any of the talking heads shows.

I cut the cord about 5 years ago and haven't looked back. Even then ESPN was getting to be less about pure sports, too much opinion and talking heads. Never really been a Stephan A. Smith fan, and Mike Greenberg is a little bitch.

The good old days when ESPN was almost entirely sports and no politics have been gone for ages, and it's cost them a lot of viewers. I don't care if their take is left or right. Sports is where I go to get away from politics. ESPN used to be cool and funny. Now it's just tedious and preachy with a lot of unlikeable talking heads who don't always know their ass from a hole in the ground.

This is baffling to me too, he's far too popular given his background and character. I've got a neighbor who is actually an OSU fan and he told me recently: "I love Bussin' With the Boys. Taylor Lewan is great."
Me: "Uhh...you know he's a whole piece of shit, right? Aside from generally being a douche on social media, he beat up a fan after a game once and threatened a rape victim."
I'm classy like that. I did forget to mention the fact Lewan is a Michigan man.

All the feels in this one. I remember being a kid in the 90s and my Saturday mornings consisting of reading the box scores from local HS football games while watching GameDay. Thanks to Coach for sticking around long enough so I had the chance to make some Saturday morning memories with my own son.

Well said MacIrish! I love the respect that Coach has for the game and his humble presence on TV.

Anything that removes Finebaum remains, however, desirable ... for whatever reason.

... same for S "A" Smith. ... place somewhere in isolation from "politics" of any stripe, to interview each other forever.

I cut the cord many moons ago. Jemele Hill was a classmate at Michigan State and the most racist piece of shit on campus. ESPN got a whiff of her and decided they had to have her. So different than the delightful ESPN of my childhood.

At least they let her walk out the door. It's still funny that she said she enjoyed leaving the "conservative culture" at ESPN. Like, for real? I guess they're conservative compared to the Atlantic where she decided to be a contributing writer.

Just became aware of this thread. Complaining about the state of ESPN and the trajectory of sports media is one of the more pathetic trends amongst American bros.

There's no need for highlight shows because you can watch it in a fraction of the time on your phone while taking a shit. The supposed woke mind virus that Clay Travis, Dave Portnoy, and other soft-jawed yokels make their living complaining about has nothing to do with it.

I can think of few things less masculine than whining about a sports highlight show not being to your liking. If you think SportsCenter sucks, go listen to some music or take a walk instead.

You’re obsession with talking about masculinity or the supposed lack thereof is odd.
