Anyone on Driskell’s site can confirm he’s saying it was a Freeman decision, but not consensus?

Sounds like sour grapes tbh.

No idea what Driskell is saying, but there is some smoke that Freeman announced it at practice yesterday to everyone's surprise and it was supposed to be discussed more then announced next week. Wild if true.

Latest from the inside scooper on 247 is that Carr can throw an amazing deep ball from a clean pocket... but otherwise Minchey is superior in every way right now, both above the shoulders and below.
And below?

Also it's still not a done deal from what it sounds like. I think Minchey is just the frontrunner right now but the Sunday scrimmage still matters.

I really have no problem with the HC gripping it and ripping it if he feels like he knows which guy he wants.

At this point, do we even want Carr to jetson past Minchey's body of work over one practice? I mean how bad would Minchey have to be. Even if Carr performs really well, and Kenny's solid, can't imagine one scrimmage flipping anything at this point.

That isn’t what he said at all.

“Minchey has the edge physically over Carr in almost every category, Carr throws an amazing deep ball from a clean pocket and does not miss much on short stuff.

Carr is a somewhat more natural leader but takes too many risks and makes too many mistakes. Both QBs have done a great job of having control of the offense.

Minchey at the end of the day is the better QB.”

Haha! If it is Minchey, Carr's interceptions on Day 1 and the inability to sit and stretch with the team really were the story...

The 4D chess interpretation of all this is Freeman turning up the heat on Carr to see how he reacts to stress.

I remember Coach MF saying they would let them both get a bunch of reps and those reps would determine the starter. No exact time frame and no expectations. The kids would decide. Sounds like things have been sorted.
I think it is important to note that MFMF is going to do what is best for the team and the individuals. Taking a very driven, A type personality, who places too much on himself and is maybe pressing a little bit, and putting him in an incredibly hostile environment where some things are certain to go wrong is not doing anyone any favors. Most of all the kid.
I have no info on the matter, but sometimes even the most talented players (usually the most talented) players need to learn to focus on letting the game come to them and less on the pursuit of all the goals they see in front of them. 13 is a dog and every dog has their day. I trust the coaches to do what’s best for everyone in time.
Wishing all the best to 8, 13, and the 2025 Fighting Irish team!

I think College Football 26 handles position battles the best, pass in 7 on 7, dodge medicine balls in the pocket, and run the triple option. Best of three drills wins the position battle.

The way some of them are talking makes it sound like a decision was effectively made but it’s not over. I wonder if something was said like Minchey will “start” the scrimmage or something like that. Because Prister’s posts makes it sound like Freeman made distinct, revealing decision, but not a final decision. Or the reps are starting to slide to not 50/50

Mickens today made multiple references to groups, calling it the nickel room, corner room and safety room.

We're deep in the safety room; Nickel room. In the corner room, obviously we drop a little bit after the first two with the young guys just being freshman. We won't know there until the season starts. But they're competitive as a group and the standard there is high."

"We have depth, but those two guys at corner are special and really high. It's not fair to compare the freshmen to that, but they are athletic enough to go out and get the job done."

Hobbs is never addressed here. The three freshman are. There is later a question on Hobbs that coincidences with a follow up on the Nickel spot.

Prior Dale's post above, I was on the wait for the actual announcement. Less sure now. Still going to wait for the Freeman public statement.

This has been unlike any QB battle I have ever seen. We had such high hopes for Carr and I feel everyone tabbed him as not only the favorite but the next Brady Quinn. Now he very well could start at some point in Miami or maybe even the next game against TAMU. These first two games are crucial. We can’t afford to doing anything less than 1-1. If we go 2-0 we are sitting in the cat bird seat the rest of the way. I trust Freeman and Denbrock making the right choice. Denbrock has coached 4 mobile QBs that went to the next level so this shouldn’t be that big of a surprise.

Difference is that both Tommy and Dayne both had experience but we also already knew what we had with both, which was...not much.

Dayne had a lot of talent, but was a head case. He was also coming off his 2nd season ending knee injury and it was evident that his confidence was shot.

Tommy was more confident in running the offense, but he had a popgun for an arm and cinderblocks for legs.

Both CJ and Kenny are both WAY more talented than Tommy and unless something shocking happens, they appear far more composed than Dayne.
