Holy hell. I feel bad for you guys living in such fear of all Muslims. Way to completely derail the point of the conversation. It was about religious extremism of any faith being bad. You all seem to forget we just had a shooting caused by some Christian nationalist last month. Or like we haven't seen attacks against planned parenthood or LGBTQ groups, or Jewish synagogues, or mosques. All by people holding either Christian nationalist views or other extreme Christian views as their motivation.
It's not fear. It's just being conscious of the world we live in post 9/11 and the attacks that have taken place since then in the name of Islam.

The fact that you completely forgot or ignore the terror attacks that happened in the US (listed above) and are more concerned about a backwoods cult leader who says he hates gay people is far more naive than I could ever try to be.

The fact that you completely forgot or ignore terror attacks that happened in the US by Christians but focus on only those committed by Muslims says way more about you than it does anything. Focus on all religious extremism, even if it makes you uncomfortable.

And it's not just backwoods cult leaders, I really wish you would acknowledge what's happening in our country regarding LGBTQ people under trump. And specifically trans people. Here's Don Jr. Talking about how trans people are the most violent group of people and calling us a domestic terror threat. When in reality we're more likely to victims of violent crimes. Hmm I wonder if people like the backwoods cult leader and Don Jr are the reason why

I would say this post is quite offensive and not conducive to a positive discussion. Based on the discussion in another thread I think this might be called out.

Wait, are you Muslim or a Nun?

All I was saying in the other thread was I'd like to see a decrease in the personal attacks on both sides. There's been a lot lately and they're better served in DMs. It was just a personal wish, it's tiresome going through a lot of childish retorts over the course of multiple replies and pages. If the same posts were made on the normal board the offenders would get a temp ban for breaking the rules. I realize the rules don't so much apply here, but they surely won't be missed if the middle school name calling was moved to DMs.

The meme isn't directed to anyone here that I know of, it's pretty broad. I understand you may find that more troublesome than the personal attacks per our discussion. Maybe it would help us understand why you find it more offensive than a personal attack if you explained your position further. As far as I know you're not Muslim or a Nun.

I find it incredibly offensive on multiple levels. On a basic human level I think joking at the expense of women who are going to be blown up often against their will is pretty gross. On an anecdotal level which shouldn’t matter, but I have a pretty observant Muslim women who left Pakistan because of restrictive practices and to think that her leaving that situation to make better living for herself in Canada after living the US for a brief period too is now being joked about by some guys who have no clue is pretty offensive.

Now, do you think that meme was in poor taste or not if you’re looking it from my side?

More people die from inadequate health care in America thanks to the two main political parties than al-Qaeda could have ever dreamed of killing. The biggest threat to America is itself and its flaws. Some loser running over people in New Orleans or a shooting from 10 years ago is nothing compared to United Healthcare or Anthem.

Is it really funny if it's true though? I mean, nuns aren't blowing themselves up. The Muslim women in those circumstances may not always be willing bombers, but that doesn't mean they're any less dangerous, correct? I would think the women that have fled Pakistan shouldn't be offended, they're no longer restrained by possible extremists that could force them to take part in those acts of terrorism. By that token the meme doesn't really apply to them.

Lets look at your Canadian friends from this perspective: lets say you were in an abusive marriage where your partner was beating you, emotionally and physically abusing you, and you managed to escape...lets say to Canada...there's no love there, you've no intentions of going back to your abuser. You don't care for this person, you're better off without them. If you then heard someone say something about your former abusive partner, something that was upsetting to some of his friend group but yet still truthful, would it offend you? You're not part of that extreme and abusive relationship anymore, you're divorced from it. In a similar fashion I think you're unnecessarily being offended for these people, it doesn't sound like they want to go back to that life and are happy to be living peaceful lives now.

So you're okay with al-Qaeda, Hamas, etc. killing because we have inadequate healthcare?

Two separate subjects. Go back and read. You'll see that pretty much everyone that posts in the political threads agree that our healthcare is lacking and it's a big ripoff. It's estimated that 35K - 45K die annually. Not from inadequate healthcare but from having no healthcare because they can't afford it. 44 and The Affordable Care Act have made things worse. I had decent coverage and paid a reasonable fee each month that covered me and my wife. When Obamacare went into effect, premiums sky rocketed. My coverage through work jumped $200 per month.

The health insurance companies need to be reigned in

I think health is a bigger issue than actual healthcare. Mentally and physically. I would assume we would have a much better healthcare system if the average person wasn’t so fat and so stupid. And because we are so fat and stupid, the healthcare industry knows how dependent we are on them, so they don’t really have any motivation to even be adequate.

It's just really crass and gross. It's like making rape jokes. Someone who experienced that is probably not going to find that funny.

In this scenario, if the joke was about him then yes that would be funny. But, like I said, the joke is about the victim. If the meme had been a picture that was like "Welcome to Hezbollah, it's standard practice for each new hire to get a fancy pager!" that is funny because it's the shit bags who are exploding, not Muslim women.

How you feel about Muslims is how I feel about the US government.

Biggest mark on Muslims is their treatment of women. My nephew is getting married in a few weeks - converted to Islam. I call it Rights of Subjugation so much my mom thinks that is what the ceremony is called. All women in attendance must respect the space by fully covering themselves. The only muslim in the place will be my nephew - and the imam of course.

Your joyless world of no jokes out of fear of offending someone sucks. By that I mean Canada.

This is offensive to 50% of the world population - not funny!

Can you imagine if Uber allowed people to request male only drivers? Or race specific?

Plenty of room to make jokes, punching down is talentless.

Woman = bad driver is a tired joke, making the same joke decades gets a bit old IMO. A bit different than Muslim woman blowing up.

You must be a hoot at parties.

Serious question though - why is it OK to exclude males from the Uber service but not Muslims, gays, Republicans, women or catholic priests?

How are males being excluded.

there aren't a lot of words in my posts - you really can't use any context clues to figure it out? Seriously?

I'll take the bait - WOMEN CAN REQUEST WOMEN DRIVERS - that means male drivers are being excluded. Derp.

Did you know that there is women only gyms? Or men only golf courses? Strip clubs that have only women, would you like to demand that men should be up on the pole?

I think the uber drivers will be just fine.

First, I did acknowledge the attacks you mentioned but fact is they don't pale in comparison to the ones committed by extreme Islamists. I would also question how many of those attacks done by Christians were done in the name of Christ versus the ones where the Islamists were screaming alluha akbar. Again...come knock on my door when Sister Mary Jane has a suicide vest go off in Pakistan or Father Jim shoots up a gay nightclub killing 50 people. I will eat all the crow.

On the Don Jr thing...I'm not gonna sit here and agree with or defend everything every person named Trump says, certainly not one who doesn't hold public office. I'll just use your mindset and focus on what's happening in our country (dozens of terror attacks since 9/11) moreso than what a cult leader says about gay people.
