Are we sure?

I read that he was often using Texas as leverage to keep getting raises because the Great Recession hit him pretty hard (investments went bad?).

I'm sure he's probably fine by now and agree with all you're saying. Juice isn't worth the squeeze for him to return. I really doubt he does.
Well the initial Texas leverage was a decade ago and he was the top paid CFB coach I think until he retired. I heard he has a part of multiple dealerships on top of whatever he was paid by Bama, so I doubt he's really hurting for money. But stranger things have happened

I can't imagine he'd handle being hamnstrung by the Browns/Blackburns very well

I personally would find it hilarious to watch Saban bomb out in the NFL again

Basing your franchise moves on eventually acquiring a sophomore QB who hasn't started a game in college is so stupid that I could believe the Browns are doing it.
Exactly. If Arch is so good then why didn’t he beat out a 7th round draft pick?

Some NFL team making a "Godfather" style offer to Saban makes way more sense to me than him ever going back to CFB. Maybe if someone sells and a new owner wants to make a big splash? Actually the Bengals make sense there. Maybe with the new owners in Indy?

It's October 2027. You're drinking hot cider on your porch and watching Saban get dogwalked by a miserable Jags team the day after watching Belichick get beat by Narduzzi in back-to-back years. You listen contentedly as a brisk wind blows through dried leaves and you smell a campfire nearby. All is well.

Was the job ever open?

Carson Wentz was never given the opportunity in college to "beat out" the guy in front of him because the guy in front of him happened to be the starting QB on a very good team.

I guess I’m of the opinion that all jobs should be open. Aren’t sports supposed to be a meritocracy? I would also think that someone who is spoken about as a possible #1 draft pick is going to be head and shoulders better than a 7th rounder. Wouldn’t you want the better player at the most important position in football? If I were a Texas fan, the thought that they could’ve won a title last year with Manning would definitely be on my mind.

Also, nobody gives a shit about the FCS. 😉

I'm also of that opinion. For whatever reason a lot of coaches and fans don't. I do think the Texas people are prematurely way too excited. Manning name...I get it. But Texas did play Ewers anytime they thought he was healthy or whatever. Maybe the Manning boy will be God's gift to football. Maybe not.

The North Dakota State fanbase agrees with you. Attendance has collapsed by 30-40% the last 6-7 years. Really sad what's happening to college football away from P4.

Relatively speaking, did he “bomb out” of the NFL? He went 9-7 & 6-10 in his two seasons. After season 1, he wanted Drew Brees but his front office wanted Daunte Culpepper. He’s quoted as saying he knew he would leave Miami when he got stuck w/ Culpepper who was coming off ACL injury. That team ended up relying on Joey Harrington at QB before he was replaced by 3rd stringer Cleo Lemon who I’m confident 99% of the members of this board have never heard of.

Actually I saw Cleo Lemon play in London for the Dolphins versus Giants in 2007. He threw a TD to Tedd Ginn Jr lol. Both teams looked properly shite that day in rainy conditions and the Wembley pitch tore up. Of course the Giants went on to win the Superbowl that year somehow/.

I saw Lemon play in Indy on NYE in 2007. Was wearing my new Dolphins Culpepper jersey that mom had got me for Xmas that year…still have it hanging in the closet.

the guy is 73 years old and has generational wealth. he will go down as one of, if not, the best CFB coach all time. he's won multiple championships. he has already accomplished everything. what would motivate him to return at this point?

fatigue is real, especially when you are approach mid-70s. and trying to navigate today's NIL landscape. i don't see a logical reason that would draw him back to coaching.

All the things you just said apply to Bill Belichick, who is now coaching at the football powerhouse that is...UNC. 😂

These guys are just built differently.

Bill was run out of town though and hes leveraging UNC for another NFL gig, Saban retired by his own choice. Their motivations right now are different.

Nick Wright "believing" something is the equivalent of my 3 year old saying "Daddy watch what I can do" then jumps off the couch onto his ass. Guy just needs a couple minutes of attention.
