ZERO chance any human with taste buds could eat the best piece of chicken Popeye's has ever produced then any random piece of chicken Gus's has produced and think they are comparable. Popeye's is fast food, (maybe the best fast food if you put places like Portillo's in Fast Casual) while Gus's is consistently as good or better than my grandma's scratch FC and my Grandma made world class skillet fried chicken.

Thank goodness Gus's decided to come to AZ. Eating there tomorrow.

I haven't had Gus's, Lee's or Bonchon, the others are basically where I'd put them, more or less.

Go to El Charro, The Original. Great tacos. They specialize in Carne Seca. The Bisbee Breakfast Club, has a decent dinner breakfast.

Carne Seca at El Charro is like getting a deep dish in Chicago. It's what you do.

BUT

I'd opt for the Mole Enchiladas at La Frida.

Other places that I wish were here in PHX: JoJo's and the Parish

If I can go to only one joint? The Parish. Frog legs, trout, catfish and skillet cornbread all on one menu and that stuffs hard to find in AZ. And their bread pudding is a 10. 11.

My theory is at Burger King is the best quality with the most volatility.

If you get a fresh-cooked Whopper, there aren’t any fast food burgers beating that delightful flame-broiled masterpiece.

However, if it isn’t 100% fresh, it free-falls down the ranking list.

Whereas a Wendy’s burger is pretty average at all times, whether hot and fresh or Luke-warm and sitting under the heat lamp for some time.

I like Culver’s for a chicken sandwich, but their burgers have way too much bun. It’s all bread.

I miss when Steak N Shake was in their heyday. They’re still around over here in the Fort, but in some sort of “fast casual” fashion. Can’t beat their original double steakburger and those shoestring fries.

Also while we’re talking fast casual…

The burger world is changing.

More Cali burgers are on the way to a town near you and they're both better than InNOut.

I basically agree with Spencer Hall's fried chicken chain rankings here:

Not on the list, but I consistently see a large gap in the opinions on Dave’s Hot Chicken. I personally think it’s around D or C

I read an article about them. They blew up. Like 6-7 years ago these guys are slinging hot chicken in an abandoned parking lot to now where a PE bought them for a billion dollars.

I had Dave’s for the first time in April when I went to a conference at ND. Stopped by the location down at Eddy Street. I love being able to choose my own spice level. Sauce was solid. It’s A-tier for me.

Getting Whataburger in Fort Walton was a pretty good change up a couple summers ago, not sure if that’s Cali or Texas-based though

Whataburger is my go to

It's based in Texas, but they have them all through the panhandle, through here over to Jax. They're all over the south.

I remember having WB like 15 years ago in Austin and thinking it was ok… since moving here tho I’d rate McDs and BK well above Whataburger. The only thing amazing about it now, aside from how expensive it is, is how they managed to take Texas beef, which is undeniably quality, and suck all the flavor out of it,.. ‘what a bland burger’. I’m not joking, I’d rate WB as the single worst fast food burger in the country. Come at me. Jack hammers it. Carls stomps it. I’ll never understand the Whataburger cult out here lol

Swensons > Culver’s > McDonald’s > Burger King > Wendy’s

Swensons is a NEO staple, although it has decreased quality slightly since branching out to Columbus and Cincinnati.

Woah,… I thought rib hut was El Paso only. I guess not,… rib hut is okay. It’s certainly not bad but not great either imo. My ribs and brisket are better. I do know they partner with UTEP and the athletes get if free and they all shit on it constantly lol

Haha idk if it’s elsewhere but the two times I was in El Paso the last year I went to the new location and the original hut. Never had beef ribs prior, couldn’t believe how good they were. Can only imagine how good they are at a proper place if you’re saying it’s not great

Ghetto Chinese restaurants make insane fried chicken wings and as a bonus will give you diabetes with the iced tea in the quart soup container.
I used to be a Commercial Insurance Field UW for several Insurance companies in the Chicago area and would inspect many restaurants. Done of the worst were Chinese restaurants. The stuff I saw...my favorite story is walking into one and wondering why there were so many box fans around the cooler/fridge. Compressor broke so they were using the fans to keep food cold..lol...some of the most poor housekeeping I have seen were Chinese restaurants.

As far as chicken fingers go, Guthrie's is my S tier. There's nothing better than a late night trip to get a Gut Box.

You know, I've never had Guthrie's, despite there being a few in town.

I like Hip Hop Fish and Chicken at Cap Circle and the Parkway. It takes a minute and is a little sketch, but omg its good.

Five Guys-Red Robin's-Culver's all have good burgers.

A double whopper at BK hits the spot for me with fast food burgers.

I love the extra scoop of fries you get with Five Guys.

Is Dante getting a culinary arts degree??

For fries, don’t sleep on Rally’s/Checkers. 🐐 tier seasoned fries.

Agreed though I’ve not had Culver’s. If I’m getting a main chain drive thru burger I guess it’s Bk. Though I’m getting InO tomorrow and looking forward to it. It’s overrated all things considered but for a drive thru??? It’s fantastic

eh, I first had Whataburger in Texas in '91, and have lived here with them for 20 years. I haven't really noticed some big drop off, at least not more than any other chain has degraded over time.

I haven't eaten McD's or BK in a couple years, they were getting that bad. Straight garbage.

It's all too gd expensive, tho.

5 guys is the worst. Good burgers, but I don't really want to spend $50 on "fast" food for 3 people.
