Hogan and Flair get props for the longevity.

Austin and Rock probably had the biggest impacts in the shortest amount of time, Austin in particular. Austin wrestled for a relatively long period of time, but was hardly very popular until the '96/'97 rebrand as Stone Cold. He rose to fame ridiculously fast, got injured and was out for a bit, came back for a bit, then stepped away again because he refused to lose to Brock before finally returning for a farewell match with Rock. He basically had less than 4-5 years on top when you consider the time he spent away from '97-'02, and nobody did more with less time.

The Rock wasn't much different. He started his rise around '97 and by '02/'03 he was out in Hollywood. He was present for most of those years unlike Stone Cold, although he had started dipping his toe into movies by that time. He's made appearances since of course, but always limited.

HBK doesn't have the mainstream popularity the other 4 have because he didn't have a career in movies or other outside projects, but his reach extends further than many people know. When Jeremiah Love is doing a crotch chop to Louisville last Saturday he's paying homage to DX and HBK. Anytime a wrestler performs a super kick and slaps his leg, it's a tribute to HBK. He set the bar in Ladder Matches, Hell in a Cell, Elimination Chamber, Iron Man matches, and he arguably made Royal Rumbles far more entertaining with his dramatic finishes. He's got the record for Matches of the Year with 11 wins including every one from '04 - '10. He had a rare combination of being a great technical wrestler that could wield the mic, not to mention have great athleticism. Seth Rollins is probably the closest modern day equivalent, but he hasn't been the innovator HBK has been.

Legendary. I saw an interview recently where he was asked about that and if it had anything to do with the controversy of Hogan backing out of their other 2 proposed matches. Apparently the overselling had nothing to do with that, it was just a call back to the old heel HBK that they wanted him to play from the 90s. They wanted '93 Heartbreak Kid heel, and when you go back and watch his selling from that period the overselling was there too. That said, it made a boring Hogan match that much more entertaining and it probably would have been forgotten to time had he not gone all out with it.

His promo work during that angle was top fucking notch though, he had to carry Hogan for much of it because he was the only one there each week. The Larry King stuff was fucking gold.

Yes, no trolling, I do enjoy watching some B1G tournaments. We watched some last winter. There was one with just Michigan vs. OSU which was pretty lit, the crowd was on fire for obvious reasons and they actually had entrances for the wrestlers like it was pro wrestling. My son has wrestled a bit too and enjoys it, he's just not very good yet. He did some training with Don Jones in Middletown's Prodigy program last season he wrestled, 2 years ago. Jones has worked with a lot of state champions, he's got a wall with several dozen pictures of former guys.

The big ten network usually broadcasts a dual every week and the big ten championship is a great tournament. NCAA championship is hard to follow if you're not familiar with the sport but the semifinals and finals of the tournament is usually great. College wrestling is underrated.

I've mentioned it in threads before but I was pretty good at wrestling back in my day.

My buddy is the middle school wrestling coach and asked me to come in to help next week. I'm pretty excited to help the kids out. It's not exciting for most people but it is for those of us who grew up with it.

Gonna spend tomorrow watching teaching videos tomorrow to get ready. I haven't worn wrestling shoes in almost 15 years.

Good luck to you. Always good to give back to the kids when you have the knowledge to offer. Wrestling is a tough sport that requires balance and a lot of discipline. What I like about wrestling, unlike football, is anyone at any size can do it. It’s a bitch of a sport though.

I tell you what, my son wrestled a few years ago. He really struggled with it his first two years. He was getting pinned almost immediately at the start, but a coach took him under his wing and tried to build up his confidence. He told me my son reminded him a lot of himself at that age because he was tall and struggled against shorter wrestlers too.

Anyway, my son got progressively better. First his defense improved, still losing matches, but he wasn't getting pinned anymore and lost on points. Then he started scoring points on his own his 2nd year. No wins going into the final meet of the year, which was a huge regional battle where 30+ schools all competed at the Nutter Center at Wright State in Dayton. My son ended up losing his first match, 2 losses and you're out. 2nd match starts and the other kid takes my son down, but he gets out quick and back to his feet. He gets taken down a 2nd time, but he's back on his feet quickly again. He gets taken down a 3rd time, and then while they were fighting for leverage my son rolled the other kid over for the pin. I was in total shock, his first win came out of nowhere after 2 years of struggles, and it was by pin in his final meet. I was pretty proud that my son persevered, but if there was anyone that was prouder than me it was that coach that worked with him everyday. He was all smiles when we met up later, just a great feeling. You could tell it meant just as much to him.

I hope you get just as much out of coaching.

I know a shit ton about hitting a baseball. I don’t coach because I’ve always had other things going on.

Guy who works for me asked for help. Ok, starts with tee work, 100 swings a day. But then, I pulled dad aside a we just watched Mike Tyson knock out videos. We watched, and watched..look at how that knock out punch goes A to B. Then he got it.

Now his son is dropping bombs. I’d like to take credit but he’s earned it. And I’m proud of him. Now I have a 3 y/o grandson who needs the same. He’s too young now but best believe he’ll be swinging lefty.

Random question but at what age can/should you start teaching a kid to switch hit? My son is 7 and right handed. I never played baseball so I got him a hitting coach and I work with him quite a bit too - just follow the lead of his coach. He's asked me to hit lefty a few times and he can do it but limited power. I was going to run with it but I don't want to screw up his swing in the process - it's beautiful and the little shit hits everything.

Any thoughts?

Never too young. The left side of the plate will be a challenge and will take patience. 100 swings a day is my best advice. Just beat up the tee. It'll come I didn’t touch a ball until I was 9.

The bottom hand being dominant is such a huge advantage. It just takes some patience/time. Keep working it, 100 swings a day.

Treat that knob like knocking someone out. Let your wrist go to work from there. A to B. Straight line. Free your wrist. Let them snap. Fast wrist is the key to launch bombs

He's got some pop already. He was a few feet away from hitting his first homer in fall ball a few weeks ago - blasted it dead center and it hit the wall. He hit it off his buddy which would have made it that much better.

I have a pitching machine and he swings at a few hundred a week. He loves it and works hard. I hope he sticks with it.

Gable in the Olympic final was one of the greatest victories I’ve seen. Last night was amazing for Wyatt. Such a cool story coming from AF and beating 2 monsters in the semis and finals. The talent level of the Heavies is insane. I remember them being lumbering and not taking shots and playing to win in OT. Then Snyder came along and it’s so crazy to watch. Great future for Okie State with DT there now. Cael is amazing. I really enjoyed the style of the Nebraska kids as well. What a great tournament.

Great tournament overall but the lighter weight finals matches were disappointing, except Mendez vs Brock. Everyone wrestled not to lose, and Mendez and Brock opened it up and wrestled with some balls. It's a shame one of them had to lose.

The tournament overall was awesome.

My son is a Sebolt kid, so obviously the late stall call on Ayala was bullshit, and we won't be convinced otherwise.
