The majority of football fans spent their Saturday watching instant classics emerge across the college football landscape, however in Pennsylvania a clash of the two best high school programs in the state lived up to the billing and offered an equally entertaining four-overtime classic in Philadelphia Catholic League play as La Salle took down St. Joseph's Prep for the first time since 2021. The best player on the field in the star-studded matchup was 2026 four-star athlete Joey O'Brien who finished with nine receptions for 83 yards and a touchdown, to go along with the decisive two-point conversion in the fourth overtime as a passer on a modified "Philly Special" trick play. O'Brien has been box office viewing on offense and defense all season for the undefeated Explorers, and regardless of where he ends up positionally at the next level, we're buying more stock in the No. 73 player for the 2026 cycle. -- 247Sports National Scouting Analyst Hudson Standish

I feel like this is a kinda guy we might lose to Happy Valley where James Franklin does absolutely nothing with him besides get noted in an opponent's notes as a guy who had a valiant effort in an inevitable loss. Get him to South Bend

La Salle has a rematch with Prep on Saturday afternoon for the PCL championship. Rematch of the 4OT thriller earlier this season. If the game was on Friday, Sacca and O'Brien would probably be visiting for FSU.

Future cast to PSU.

I was at the prep-la salle game Saturday, obrien had two TD rec and a pick. Super long and athletic. Grew up a ND fan and goes to a very on target ND high school. Would hate to lose this

I'm sure beating up on PSU definitely helped in this recruitment, given he's from PA

From the article:

“I think it’s great for ND, the coaches and players that they will play for a National Championship but it doesn’t impact my decision as far as finding a school and program that’s best for me,” O’Brien said.

Pittsburgh > Philly

I don’t get it, but Philly just isn’t good for ND. I blame @NDPhilly

A safety from Philly is also probably #1 with a bullet priority for Knowles. Nobody bump a St. Joe’s kid thread either for the rest of the time Knowles is there more than likely

I thought Knowles didn’t recruit

It’s been a tight battle with PSU going back to last summer.

Has nothing, nothing…and to be very clear, absolutely nothing to do with ND not having a GM.

Maybe to do with no Golden and no Bowden. What else has happened over the last few weeks that would give PSU the edge in this tight battle?

They hired Jim Knowles. He’s also had prediction from elsewhere to PSU since November
