Golden was a successful HC at Temple.

Where has Ash been a successful HC?

Further, that both were pulled from the NFL and were failed HCs at one time doesn't really mean anything.

What does Ash bring to the table that makes you want him as DC?
He had success at Miami too. At both Temple and Miami, he at least led them to 9 win seasons. Chris Ash didn’t win 9 games total as a HC …

Your question is, though.

Was anyone fighting ND for Al Golden to be their DC when Freeman hired him?
I don’t recall. It was a few years ago and Golden, obviously, was a “Cincinnati transfer.” Currently, point me to a school trying to poach or at least interview Ash.

Bullshit. You can't recall because there weren't any.

I can't tell you for certain that anyone else is trying to interview Chris Ash. And I don't really give a fuck.

It's a fair question, but in no way was Golden highly sought after either when Freeman hired him. He was LB coach of the team that lost the Super Bowl.

I think Freeman wants Mickens to be his DC, just not yet. So this is the best solution he has come up with to keep him on staff and give him playcalling training.

But man there has gotta be a better Co-DC option. Everybody kind of hates this guy...

That part worries me more than what he did/didn’t do at Rutgers or Texas, tbh.
It's all worrisome. For a culture guy like MF to consider bringing in a guy that could be a cancer to the culture and a poor coach - I am having a difficult time wrapping my head around this. If this is coming from Tressel and he has that much influence that's concerning because all of the anecdotal and hard data suggests that this guy is an awful fit.

Same. I was fairly on board with a situation where he was safeties coach and co-DC helping Mickens come into the role. Chip Long vibes though.

Marcus deserves the benefit of the doubt if this is the route he goes, but he will no doubt be an even bigger scapegoat than Parker if it goes tits up

Nothing is final yet. It's strictly a rumor. I am giving Coach Free the equity he deserves at this point, but this would be a curious hire and one that wouldn't necessarily excite me the way Denbrock's hire did. Al Golden was not on anyone's radar when he was hired. We could be seeing a similar situation here, be it Ash or anyone else.

He had me at bought in with the sweet Martini glass profile picture. His post was ah-ite too
The Baker will always have a special place in my heart. Once hooked up with a girl I met there that told me she was a ND cheerleader only to find out she didn’t even go to school at ND. Jokes on her, I didn’t care.

In college, I was “playing DJ” on a Smick chick (who was not attractive) by the bathrooms / pool table roomwhile drinking a 32 oz draft.

For what its worth, I think Miami fans would use a lot of words to summarize Al's time in Coral Gables and I'd bet a lot of money it would take a long time to find one that would use the word "success"

I'm not the least concerned about a guys success as a HC. Way to many variables come into play in determining a HC's success as evidenced by all of the successful OC/DC's that failed as a HC.

Keep in mind, that we've not really heard anything to the effect that Ash is the leading candidate. It could be as simple as Tressel recommending MF have a phone call with Ash to see if there is enough of a fit to be considered.

OSU got a sitting HC at a major program to leave and become their OC. They can get whoever they want as DC.

As for ND, who knows what happens if this turns into a fiasco. Is the DC at Penn HS available?

Isn't that Vince (Trusted a Fart) DeDario?

It certainly can be reflection on his ability and the job offers at hand, but his resume post national champion at OSU is like how not to choose your next job:

- Wins a Natty at OSU
- Takes a job you can’t win at (Rutgers)
- Takes a job with a hot seat head coach (Texas)

Basically torpedoed his trajectory
