From Singer re the portal and ND:

Things can change but Blue & Gold doesn't expect any of the quarterbacks to transfer out. Carr ain't going anywhere. Kenny seems happy. Angeli is here to compete. Again, things can change but that's where things stand now.

— Notre Dame GM Chad Bowden had exit interviews with players today. I don't know if it was all today or they're spread out across the week or what. But that started today.

— I believe there will be less players leaving than you'd expect. We're at three from today (Sam Pendleton, Jayden Thomas and Deion Colzie), and I'd imagine there will be more, but I don't think there will be 10-12 like people on the board think. These kids want their ND degrees if they're close. But we'll see.

— I'm not going to be answering questions about individual players staying or leaving. But I can tell you that I was told Jadarian Price is staying. I got a lot of questions about him today, and I do believe he's staying at ND.
The QBs should stick. Minchey won't walk into a starting job with zero experience, and anywhere Angeli could, he'll still be able to in April. Do spring ball and see what happens.

If Price wants to stick that's a good sign. He and Sneed seem like the biggest flight risks among top-tier players. I like to think the degree will help with a lot of the sophomores and juniors, and I certainly hope we're competitive on NIL for anyone who gets a big enough offer that they might stop valuing the degree.

I have seen the sentiment from Bud on Cover 3 that Auburn got “unlucky” with this portal. They were going to go all in on a QB and class but the portal is weak so Jackson Arnold is now “all in”. I think ND to some extent is the same. ND felt like they could go “all in” without having to pay a QB. This overall portal class just isn’t special though. There isn’t deserving players for 15 teams to throw money at. Take a step out of IE, checkout a 247 board for a few teams, very few teams are beating their chest on their portal class so far.
Does anyone think Notre Dame landed any portal guys they weren't already in contact with (either directly or by way of backchannel) prior to entering said portal?
Point being, this is all about identifying prospects Matt Jansen has scouted and analyzing the needs/holes in your roster that you need to fill in order to compete for a championship.

It's not so much about players in the portal as it is players in cfb who are viable for your program, considering the variables.

No. ND loves tampering

Maybe one or two. But several of the guys we landed via the portal seemed to be in it for a matter of hours before committing to Notre Dame. And regardless you'd certainly hope we scout them well before offering.
But at this point the portal's basically done. The only new fish in the sea are from Ohio State (ok maybe throw a bag at Carnell Tate?). This week we play defense on our own roster, which is just as important, probably more.

Paying studs is an over simplification of things. Did it work for Ohio state? Yes it did but it didn’t work for A&M and Oregon. Chemistry and culture still have to play a part. I like NDs current approach to the portal and Anyone who says ND didn’t belong are lying to themselves. The injuries finally bit them in the ass. It happens
Oregon lost one game this year….i wouldn’t say it didn’t work for them.

Love and Price are both fine sharing the workload I just hope that we don’t push a guy out like Kendren Young. But a guy like Kendren and Aneyas could be happy with 5-7 touches a game and in 2026 Aneyas and Kendren can be the featured backs. Gotta remember there’s gonna be more Carries next year with Leonard gone

Let's see where the final transfers come in. If it's not as bad as people think, I think it's fairly safe to assume that 1. NDs culture is as good as advertised for the guys on the roster 2. They are paying. Maybe not top dollar, but paying close enough where culture and opportunity outweigh any short term monetary increase.

To me, that is the way it should be, but also means if you can a guy that you think will stick, it's probably okay paying them out of HS. But a guy like Duece, would likely destroy the chemistry and culture that is driving the program.

The issue ND is going to need reconcile is that if they refuse to take undergraduate transfers for academic reasons then they need to commit to spending more money on high school recruits. You have to do one or the other, and right now we are not competitive with Oregon/Ohio State/Michigan or even second tier SEC schools with what we're willing to do for HS players.

Examples from this year include Ivan Taylor and Deuce... we land both if we spend the money. Also, every single WR we missed on was a $$ problem.
Can’t say I blame Golden for going to the NFL. As much as I think players *should* get paid, trying to navigate all of this is going to be a huge pain in the ass for our coaching staff.

Kedren Young is also good at the RB position.

Love Faison. Let's be real though he wouldn't sniff the field in Columbus.
He wouldn't start, but he'd definitely see the field.

And let's be real, who, from any roster, would start over Carnell Tate, Emeka Egbuka and Jeremiah Smith. Maybe a very select few guys could sniff a shot, but that list could be counted on one hand.

The Covid extra year guys are basically all gone now.
Not sure if it has been discussed here or elsewhere in the CFB mediaverse, but I think the impact of 4 classes of players who all had a scott free extra year of eligibility probably has had a profound influence on our perception of what the portal will look like year to year that won't be replicated to the same degree going forward long term

With the running back situation maybe they move Aneyas into more of a roll where he can line up all over. He is extremely quick. Why not have a situation where you have him line up at WR, 5 OL, Carr, Aneyas, Fields, Greathouse, Faison lined up with Love in backfield.

Do you think the Spring transfer portal window will have a bunch of new names available or is this window the big one?
This is probably the big one. There’s usually a few ballplayers who transfer in the spring but mostly it’s guys who are moving bc they see they are not gonna play much where they’re at.
Not sure why we’d want many of those.

ND needs to start taking chances on players they recruited, who have multiple years left, that hit the spring portal. For example, if players like Jeremiah McClellan (WR) and Justin Scott (DT) hit the portal, they should bring them in. They're more talented than every player at those 2 positions that ND signed in the 2025 class. I don't see any way that ND would do that, but they should. They should have no problem getting through Admissions since they are finishing their first year in college.
