Pat McAfee is the one who needs to keep picking against us. On Gameday right before the Orange Bowl I think he picked Penn State just to keep his streak alive.
Same with Josh Pate. He picked OSU but he did it with a wink and a nod. Didn’t want to spoil his mojo of picking against us.

Seems like a fine answer to me
I dunno. On the surface, it's a good, diplomatic answer. But referencing "with team success comes individual success" makes me nervous. He could have easily said that he's humbled, but he's already home. Something like that. His statement had an ellipses after it, not a period.

I keep thinking back to the team we’re currently modeled after: the 2002 Ohio St Buckeyes.

With nothing more than Clarett and a great defense they upset the Miami Hurricanes. The Canes had like 15 first round draft picks on that team.

Freeman has been following Tressel’s advice all year and it pays off next week.

Anything can happen in one game.

Believe.

I feel we are more like the 06 Gators. OSU was a 7 point favorite in that game.

1000077127.jpgPSA: If you have an ESPN+ subscription and you do not want to hear Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit (which I don't know why you would), ESPN will have a Notre Dame channel on the ESPN+ platform that will have the Notre Dame Radio Network and the game synced up, as well as a "Head Coach" cam on Marcus Freeman. There are also no commercials, which means you'll be able to watch Freeman interact with the refs or the team during TV timeouts. This will also be accessible on a smart TV as well, as the app store on your TV likely offers the ESPN app. Unfortunately, they do not offer a free trial of any sorts.

Just thought I'd shout this out considering how unbearable Fowler and Herbstreit will be Monday night.

Was this press conference taking place in a train station? Why was there so much background noise?

(As for the answer: Yeah I would’ve rather heard him say “I just signed a big extension and I’m not going anywhere.” But Freeman has talking points and he tends to stick to them and the “team success brings individual success” has been a big one lately. Besides he’s smarter than to take a job with the stupid Bears.)

Schefter also said on McAfee earlier this week that he's heard Freeman is happy at Notre Dame and hasn't heard anything else besides that. I know it's Schefter, but it fits my narrative so I'll choose to run with his word.

I’ve literally heard Freeman give that exact answer to like 5 other questions, 10x over. I think some anxiety coming out if that was heard as a concerning quote
Exactly. I think he actually said something nearly identical after he signed his contract. The repetition points to an effective media coach.

I’m pretty sure his agent coaches his guys up to answer questions like this

It just would have been so easy to toe the party line while simultaneously making it clear he has no intention of entertaining any offers:

"With team success comes individual success; however, I'm not going anywhere..."

So easy. And when you factor in how Freeman comes across as an incredibly honest person, it makes me think the only reason he didn't say it is because he would consider it lying to do so.

Why would he go to the NFL, for a disaster of an organization, completely outside his depth at this point, all for a pay cut?

I get it's the "highest level", but do you think he'd experience ANYTHING like he is currently experiencing at ND in the NFL anytime in the near future? I don't.

Say he got a few million more, big deal. That wouldn't be worth it to me.

The funniest part of the Freeman NFL stuff is Ryan Day could absolutely be a name in NFL circles the second the game ends

He checks basically every box Freeman does + more. Why would a team prefer Deion, Freeman, and Sark over Day?

Thats my bigger concern. If Ryan Day scrams to the NFL we're gonna find out about the ND/OSU hierarchy for the Freeman family real quick.
Correct, that's the bigger risk. Win or lose, Day might want to go to the NFL. I don't know who else would be their top pick, other than Freeman.

Chip would be is OC. Chip won’t be in CFB any longer than he needs to be at this point

Freeman seems to me like he likes ND. But who knows, it is a job. But he is only 38. If he really wants to coach OSU or go to the NFL at some point, he can stay here another 10 years, then probably go to OSU or the NFL. Or OSU and then the NFL.

Yeah, and I don't know what people expect him to say? He said he's put "zero thought into the NFL" which is about as definitive as a coach will ever be.
