This dude has to have a hot seat. His punter sucked, his field goal kickers suck 8-18 this season. No significant punt or kickoff returns.

The one successful thing he has done was fake punts. But he has to do a lot better.

And from the sounds of it his kicker that he got to transfer struggled again today in practice.
What about punt blocks?

Honestly—and I’ve shit on the dude as much as anyone—Rendell has hit some much better punts the last 3-4 games of the season. That would seem to signal some development, even if he isn’t the punting prince we were promised.

This actually feels like news to me. Is this a commonly held view?

I thought it was a little bit of a mixed bag but scheming up blocks and fakes was a thing of beauty. His kicker started the season out incredibly well but then.....something obviously happened.

Punter has been average, right? Good, not great, not terrible. I thought he'd done a really admirable job outside of the FGs issue. No idea what is happening there. Just utterly confusing. Some of the momentum gained by the fakes/blocks have been huge this season.

Yeah I'm with you. They took a chance on an Aussie punter and he's been fair to middling. I actually hope he comes back cuz there's a pretty good chance he's gonna be really good next year if so.

Not sure if you can blame the coach for the kicker getting the yips and a groin injury at the same time. I'll concede to others smarter than me that some of the blocking has been sus on FGs, but it mostly looks like the yips to me

We've been getting close to what seems like the majority of punts if not blocking them, blocking kicks, throwing out really well designed fakes teams have to prepare for...

KO coverage has been violent too.

I like Biagi. He's a keeper in my eyes.

Couldnt disagree more about the hot seat. He has schemed up some perfectly timed and executed fakes. We’ve blocked a bunch of punts and nearly blocked many others. His kicker was solid to start the season then got hurt and hasnt been able to het back to 100% which has effect his confidence too. Punting hasnt been great but its not like you can just coach a guy to kick a ball further. Coverage teams have been excellent both kick and punt.
I think he has done just fine honestly. If Jeter doesnt get banged up which has made the performance seem drastically worse which inconsistency in your FG game will due that.

execution of his kicker who was hurt, the punter sucked i get that ....but from ALL accounts he could boom it from even media people...so how in the heck is that on the coach? the dude had us almost blocking every damn punt the entire season despite coaches knowing this....execution of some of the best damn fakes....this feels like a disgruntled fan who expects a kicker to make every fg...there's a reason why kickers don't get drafted usually....they all go into a funk and then they are done...it's mental

Last post in thread was 9/24/23. Suddenly it's being suggested that his job is on the line the week before Christmas 2024. Were the torches and pitchforks reserved in the game day threads?

I mean, I know how pleasant and overwhelmingly positive those game day threads are, but nothing in the coach's individual thread for 15 months?

Bruv....

I dont understand this...

ND finished #91 with 41.5 yds average per punt...
#134 (Last) with 47.6% of FGs made...
#88 in Kickoff Returns with 19 yards per return
#104 in Punt returns with 5 yds average...

6 blocked kicks/punts and a handful of game altering fakes (that of which, are some of the most creative we've seen) aren't counted in any of those stats.

I am sure there are others more deserving, but it's hard for me to hold any kicking stats against him when Jeter was injured or hobbled for half the season. Rendell was the real disappointment for me given the practice reports which to me that tells me its the yips rather than a coaching issue.

Brian Mason never got this one, did he? Kind of silly when you think about it.

Brian Mason did get it in 2022.

They must be thinking it’s not his fault the kicker and punter have struggled.
He has been great in the other facets.
Kickers are all nut jobs so I don’t really know how much is on the ST’s coach. They definitely had some momentum changing plays with the fakes and blocks. Most of that is scheme and the ST’s coach is directly responsible. Congrats to him.

I played with a kicker who would stroll into practice wearing his street clothes under his practice pants and shoulder pads - pajama pants dangling from knee to ankle and a hooded sweatshirt tucked under his pads. After practice, he’d strip off the gear and walk out in the same clothes. I shit you not.
