Why is Bama in consideration? Losses to 6-6 Vandy and 6-6 Oklahoma should push them out of the top 12.

If Clemson wins, SMU will fall and then there is PSU v Oregon. Texas v GA is in the same boat, allowing the Irish to move to 5.

Penn state isn’t going to get punished unless they get blown out, which seems unlikely.

PSU’s best win Illinois would be an underdog against SC, Texas A&M, Louisville, and maybe Army. But they are ranked above Army, who is our only “ranked” win.

This committee just is so incompetent. Have no idea how to balance SOS with wins and losses.
They are really, really bad at their job. That's been clear since the first release. They do not know how to evaluate the teams with the conferences being this big and the other restrictions.

But they're also getting screwed by a system that was designed for 5 power conferences and 6 autobids. What's effectively happening here is that you have a broken seeding system that is magnifying inequities between certain teams and their "draw". If you just seeded 1 through 12 it would look like:

Byes - Oregon, Texas, PSU, ND
5 Georgia vs 12 ASU
6 Ohio State vs 11 Bama
7 Tenn vs 10 Boise
8 SMU vs 9 Indiana

No one would have a problem with this. Then you'd get:
Oregon vs SMU/Indiana
Texas vs Tenn
PSU vs OSU/Bama
ND vs Georgia

That round of 8 makes WAY more sense than how the bracket projects:
PSU vs Boise (???)
Oregon vs OSU/Tenn
SMU (???) vs Bama/ND
Texas vs Georgia

You cannot be giving byes to flat out bad teams like we're currently doing. This shit does not work.

The reason for the byes are the 13th game. ND doesn't play one yet the 4 teams with byes do. I get that.

I can only think PSU is ahead of the Irish due to their placement in the BIG CG.

I’d be surprised if PSU stays as the #5 seed if they lose unless it is a very close game. They’re going to give PSU a cakewalk to the semis for a rematch with Oregon?

IMO PSU should get dropped below OSU if they lose to Oregon. OSU drew Oregon, PSU, IU this year, PSU only had to play OSU. If there’s a time to “punish” a loser of a conf champ game it’s this circumstance. There’s no justification for a 11-2 PSU with losses at home to OSU and neutral site to Oregon to be ahead of 10-2 OSU.

I hate a Big 10 AD as the chairman…and Big 10 conference gets more money per how their teams perform and advance. Conflict of interest in a billion dollar industry where OSU is hosting vs Tenn after losing to a .500 at home when favored by 3 TDs. And Penn St who is still ahead of ND who has been trending ahead of them for the past 3 weeks and now has a total body of work, besides a worse loss, that screams “better than this team” in direct comparison.
I have watched this bozo barely complete a sentence three weeks in a row and tonight I just found out he’s Michigan’s AD. Nothing but the finest character running this committee. It’s a joke.

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect PSU to swap places with us after a CCG loss, regardless of score. Then again, I assumed the committee would have swapped us this last week given our respective performances against a common opponent...

This “SOR” stat sucks too. What team is better? The team that beat three top 10 teams and nine FCS schools or the team who beat a bunch of 7-5 FBS schools? SOR will tell you the latter is better.

I agree with not wanting to play Bama. They are the team that even on their off day, could still beat us on our off day given their talent. Here's the options of what we need to root for to not play them, in my opinion:

1. Clemson beats SMU close and committee keeps SMU in
2. Georgia beats Texas and Penn St. beats Oregon, pushing us down to the 7 seed (to likely play Indiana)
3. Penn St. gets destroyed by Oregon and they punish them by moving us ahead to the 5 seed
4. Arizona State passes Bama in the rankings with a win in the Big 12 championship and gets the 11 seed
Nice analysis. None of those four are likely on their own but the odds are good that 1 will happen..

ND had better not draw Bama in the 1st round.

Not saying we couldnt beat them... but I'd much rather play ASU or Miami.
It's the committees plan, they will keep us a spot back at 6 and overrate Bama at 11 instead of putting ASU or Miami there...No doubt

The committee is the dumbest part of CFB and that's saying something.

Just use the old BCS formula. Or, create a 2.0 version. But stop using a bunch of people who make the rules up as they go.
I am 100% on board with using computers.

Bama @ ND is almost inevitable. If there was ever a year for it to happen, let it be this one. Let's exorcize some demons.
I don't know if anybody here listens to Bill King but he is THE MAN when it comes to college football. He has been preaching this is the year ND is willing and able to match up with the big boys and that ND's physicality will be a problem for pretty much anyone they face.

I agree, it seems like they want Bama to come to ND. I think if PSU loses to Oregon, ND should pass them but that might not happen. With a computer it definitely would, if we were not already ahead of them.

Just imagine if we didn't lose Morrison, Traore, Botelho, KVA(??)...

I think Clemson beats SMU by at least 8
Tex beats UGa in a close game
Penn St loses by more than 10

We should still get the 5 seed

The committee is the dumbest part of CFB and that's saying something.

Just use the old BCS formula. Or, create a 2.0 version. But stop using a bunch of people who make the rules up as they go.
The first several iterations of the committee were actually pretty good - they weren't afraid to change their rankings significantly week to week as new data came in and they were pretty consistent with what they valued - resume (SOS, SOR, who you beat) followed by "eye test" (they never used those words but used metrics like offensive and defensive efficiency and game control).

Over the last 3 or 4 years, the committee's standards have declined to the point where their rankings are more like how AP voters rank teams - "Well, I had team A ranked ahead of team B last week and both teams won so I won't change how each is ranked this week." That's a very poor way to rank teams. The committee is supposed to start from scratch each week. The earlier versions of the committee did that. The most recent versions don't even though they claim they do. There is rarely any shakeup in the rankings unless a ranked team loses.

And as you said, they make rules up as they go. Their justification for some of their rankings is different from one team to the next and from one week to the next. That's bullshit.
