But the economic boom in Northern Virginia is mainly based on the fact that the entire internet runs through there; DC values are inflated by foreign money and lawyers; Maryland has an extremely high concentration of old money especially among religious demographics that were discriminated against back in the day. The 2-5% of the workforce in Maryland and Virginia that works for the federal government is not what is driving the $$, it's the adjacent businesses and bloated contracts.

Been to Dubai a lot. I've seen some of the workers and conditions and it ain't the USA, I'll just say that. Beautiful setup there though. Amazing what dirt-cheap labor and no regulations can do for the skyline.

My guess is that there is a lot of posturing coming from Trump and coming from Sheinbaum. Trumps throwing out stuff to leverage a change from Mexico regarding immigrants and to send a signal to the American people that he's tackling the problem aggressively. Of course the Mexican President will throw out some stuff in return in an attempt to look strong.

As long as Mexico makes any kind of reasonable effort, I doubt much of anything happens with tariffs.

Probably will, if Mexico is actually going to do something about stopping the migrants like they say, that'll be less money we're printing to take care of the illegals that are here. I'm fine if people end up paying a little more for their avocados and shitty GM vehicles. I don't eat avocados, and I quit buying GM after they shipped their jobs off following the bailout. Sugars could be a problem, but I don't know if that applies to corn syrup.

You know damned well that adding millions of illegal aliens to our population requires a huge increase in police, fire, medical, social, court system, educational, housing, and infrastructure expenditures. Why make a blatantly misleading and dishonest claim that insinuates that entitlements are the only expense? Are you unaware of the increase in such things, or do you think the rest of us don't know about them? For the record I never argued that more people doesn't equal more costs. More people equals more costs, but if illegal immigrants are contributing more in taxes then they are taking back, and provide more per capita than a regular citizen they are a net positive. How do you think things like local police departments and schools are funded? Are the sales taxes, payroll taxes, incomes taxes, property taxes, etc that are collected from illegal immigrants kept in some other bucket that doesn't contribute to funding these programs?

Not to mention the economic impact of their cheap labor.
