You should virtually never take timeouts for your opponent below 2 minutes and on defense. It’s not being “aggressive”, it’s drastically increasing their odds of scoring. It is beyond comical that 1) he doesn’t understand this 2) no one on his staff has corrected him on this after doing it multiple times this year and getting burned previously.

You all expect too much out him anymore. He is just a good coach and nothing more.

Yeah I don't have a problem with taking that first timeout at the end of the half. But maybe the defense isn't as good as it was at the start of the season due to the injuries

Only do it if they are inside their own 15

Almost all coaches do it to try and get the ball back if you get a decent drop on first down

Not the same.

Lanning did it on purpose with 12, creating a penalty. Not by accident with only 10 players and led to the game winning TD. Freeman also did it on back-to-back plays.

lol it's a joke

While we're on the topic, was the 10-player issue versus OSU on Freeman, Golden, or Washington? I'd think they should all get the blame, though I get Freeman is the head coach. Maybe some of it is on the players too

Well aware that it's a bad joke.

Who's at fault? Have you ever been in charge of people? There are zero scenarios where Freeman is not responsible.

I thought it was a clever joke

Freeman has to get some blame, but surely he's not the one in charge of personnel changes or making sure there are 11 on the field. The others have to do their jobs too

And yeah, I'm a surgeon in a big private practice so I'm in charge of a lot of people. I don't think I should be held solely responsible every time an employee makes a mistake. There's got to be personal responsibility all the way down the line

Internally, absolutely. You drill down and figure out as much as you can about what happened and why. Pick your preferred method, they'd probably all work just fine here.


If you are watching a surgery and you miss something, like a person not being in the OR when they should be, you wouldn't feel ultimately responsible? The missing person and people closer to them should be held accountable, but you are the one running the show, yeah?

You're taking the comparison too literally, I was thinking more like a billing issue or not getting the results of a test prior to clinic. You can't do surgery if someone is just missing lol

If a defensive lineman was missing on that last play, then the blame should mostly be on the person managing the DL rotations, or someone upstairs who can see much better than someone at field-level. As the head coach, Freeman is partially responsible, but I just don't think any head coach is involved with that kind of minutia.
