It’s not like it was as hard one. 4th and 1 and we can’t stop their run game or 3 and 11. Your talked the 3 and 11 everytime other than them being inside their own 15.
Kinda my point. He was standing there "deer in headlights." Dude runs into the picture and shows him the IPad, and then lightbulb on and decision made.

GATTACA!

It's about to get gross

Sorry if already covered, but did he or did he not cost ND like 20-30 seconds with timeout usage on the last NIU drive? Was there any commentary on the broadcast about this?
No I don’t think so. The refs fucked up and didn’t run the clock after the review after 3rd down so it just saved us a timeout.

Wait what? So we still had a timeout on the last drive? In the stadium they said we called timeout and were out of timeouts.

Freeman appears to be a marginal improvement over Kelly. I'd rather go 11-1 and lose to NIU but win the "big" games than go 11-1 and lose the biggest game on the schedule. So that's a marginal improvement. But Freeman actually hasn't gone 11-1 yet. That's why he only appears to be a marginal improvement.

I'm not optimistic when the team can inexplicably lay an egg as a heavy favorite. OSU, Georgia, etc., do not do that.
Exactly this.

We’re no closer to the elite & it’s that simple. In year three we’re dropping @ home to NIU?

Insanity.

But I’ll give one glimmer of hope.

I do think this loss is heavily on Riley unfortunately.

He’s a great kid & a great runner but completely ineffective in the passing game.

We all know football.. we know what kind of advantage that gives an opposing team. And it’s not just an advantage on the defensive side of the ball.

It means our D on the field longer than they should be. They held NIU to one big, botched TD pass & 3 FGs..

If we have a competent QB in this game we’re not even talking about the D bc we won 37-16.

Marcus didn’t coach to win the game.. Everyone in the country can see Riley’s inability to throw over 10 yards.. he had a 22% completion rate in that regard at Duke (who scouted him?).

At the half, Angeli should have had the ball.

Give it to him next week & let’s start opening up the playbook.. Create a threat in the pass game & boom all of a sudden Love & Price become even more dangerous out of the backfield.

It’s not rocket science.. the D will do its job if we win the field position battle.. which again, with a more complete QB we will

Riley had all the time he needed in the pocket.. all of it. And still couldn’t read progressions & timely release a good ball.

Sure, Angeli’s sample size is basically the Oregon St game but it was a good one & I don’t think we can get much worse.

Think that’s a bad move IMO because Vegas knows how this goes. Public overreacted to NDs win last week, they’ll overrreact to this loss. Freeman’s gonna right the ship, look dominant at times, and get them 5-1 or 6-1 before another clunker against an inferior opponent.
You’ve seen this movie before too?

Parker put up big numbers against the teams we should beat. He had a quarterback who was accurate beyond 15 yds though too

Yes and ND had 1 or 2 timeouts left.

I am not hopping on the get rid of Freeman bandwagon. There is a lot of the season left.

Coaching at Notre Dame is a different animal.
It isn't that different. What happened yesterday should not happen ever, but certainly not in year 3. What I expected to happen was going 11-1, winning a game or two before losing close to a championship-level team in the playoff. (Of course, more would have been great too.) But getting to the playoff and playing a championship-level team at least competitively were reasonable expectations for this season, given the roster, schedule, stage of MF's tenure, etc.

Maybe that still happens. But I doubt it. And assuming it does not, the question is just how long this goes on.

During the game winning drive....., I believe Garrett mentioned that ND gained about 20-30 seconds because the clock didn't start when the ball was placed.
Wait what? So we still had a timeout on the last drive? In the stadium they said we called timeout and were out of timeouts.
According to the broadcast, ND had a timeout to use on the final drive. Garrett mentioned how when they decided to have another long kicked blocked in the exact same way the last one was blocked..., that it made sense because 5 seconds was going to be too risky to get a play and timeout off.

Kelly figured out how to win these games....but it took what? 6/7 seasons?

IMO, ND lost this game because RL couldn't throw the ball accurately and on time with any sort of consistency. Freeman isn't going to bench him after one "got it done game" against a good defense and had a very very bad game. He just isn't, it's not how he leads/manages/coaches right now.

RL shits the bed again and struggles next week, he needs to get benched in the game and for the next week to give Angeli a real shot.

Brian kelly took this program to its first national championship game in decades in year 3

There was, but they were understanding of his choice wanting to save a timeout for their last possession.

Well aware. I also watched that team be completely outclassed, to the point that Bama players laughed about knowing everything ND was going to do on defense. Kelly had already taken a G5 school to a BCS game too. How much went right that year to get to that game? The vast majority of people I have heard comment about that year always frame ND as overrated and lucky to be in that game. Looking back, I tend to agree.

To repeat my point, at the same time he also lost games as a double digit favorite. Just like Freeman has done 3 times now.

After years of practice at lower level schools. Kelly was able to crockpot at other schools. MF was a microwave meal and that shit is exploding

If you or I changed places with Marcus freeman at halftime yesterday we could have won this fucking game. I legitimately don’t understand how this happens. I do not know shit about football…

Look dude all I want is consistent top 15 finishes and occasionally making it to a national championship or final four before losing.

Look dude, no one forced you to respond to me. All I want is someone to not "yeah, but" me with shitty reasons that ignore context.

Just talking ball. It’s just tough to see such regression from the Kelly years - and to think how we hated him!

It’s pick your poison. Would you rather have seen the team piss down their leg in College Station and lose, then thump NIU, or win in College Station and piss down their leg at home against a MAC school?

You aren’t avoiding poison, this much is certain

Strange this is, if the games were scheduled in reverse we probably win both.

I think the issue with this is that TAMU is probably going to finish this year at 7-5. Reminder we’re 0-2 against OSU under coach marcus.

I'm just trying not to lose my shit. There is no "bright side" for this.

Inexcusable just barely describes my disgust at this whole situation. And Freeman talks about a "fix". No, there's just no way this can happen in the first place. Zero improvement from last week. A semi competent offense wins this game by 30. I don't want another soundbite from Freeman. There's just no excusing this.
