When he does play he’s awesome but looks like he’s just broken down at this point. Mickey Mantle had worse injuries along w/ being a functional alcoholic and accomplished much more individually. Griffey broke down too but put up crazy individual stats.
I was lucky enough to watch Mickey almost every weekend as the Game of the Week was broadcast on Saturdays. Sponsored by Falstaff beer, the announcers were PeeWee Reese and Dizzy Dean. Still think Roger comes in second place in the HR chase in '61 if Mickey doesn't get hurt late in the season.

Bolded are my takes for early admission into the Hall
Concur on all of your takes. I think Altuvé eventually gets in but won’t be 1st ballot b/c of the 2017 WS sign stealing…fair or not.

Seager & Acũna have to stay healthy which they have yet to prove they can do on a consistent basis. When they’re healthy, they’re elite.

Devers just has to stay on the trajectory he’s on but he’s got a ways to go.

I think Machado will be a HOFer but needs to continue his production both on offense & defense.

I think most folks agree with that. I also think it would’ve caused more stress for Maris as a large swath of Yankee fans would’ve been actively rooting for Mantle to beat his teammate.

1961 was an expansion year so guys like Maris, Norm Cash, Jim Gentile & others were anomalies never to match that out put in their career again. Maris did win back-to-back MVP but his ‘60 numbers (while very good) paled in comparison to ‘61.

Devers loves his off season. Comes into to camp overweight every year. Finally gets into playing shape, then ropes the league and starts playing D. Seems to be the pattern.

I think too that Bonds and Clemens should be in just bc they were HOF before the juice. I understand, though…can’t cheat the game. Also think Rose should finally have his day.

Won’t happen but was always hopeful for Dwight Evans would get in.

I think there might have been less stress if Mickey stays healthy. Yankee fans were already on Roger when Mickey went down but with Mickey out of the picture they focused on Maris. They didn't want Roger to beat the Babes record because he didn't come up through the Yankee system. Maris was a better player than given credit for. If you're a Yankee fan and haven't seen this.

The O’s payroll 101 millions dollars

The dodgers payroll 277 million dollars

Both have had significant injuries and basically have the same record.

I was saying if Roger stayed neck & neck w/ Mick til the end. He would have even more stress as he already knows Yanks fans don’t want him to beat Babe’s record but then to prevent their beloved Mantle from beating it. At least w/ Mick’s injury, they would tell themselves Mickey would’ve beat it but the couldn’t blame Maris for his injury.

I actually believe casual baseball fans overate Maris’ talent b/c of the 1961 season. A lot of younger fans assume he’s in the HOF. He had two HOF seasons in 60 & 61. Other than that, he was solid. Can’t remember why he retired so abruptly after winning the series on that ‘67 Cards team. Luckily, Augie Busch gave him a Budweiser distributorship as part of his deal which likely ended up being more valuable than the contracts of those days.

Not the first time something like that has happened and surely won’t be the last. I immediately think to the times the Rays made the WS despite a low payroll. Look at the Rangers, they bought the right players & mgr & won the WS last year. This year, w/ the same roster they’ll be lucky to make a WC due to injuries.

Judge is making another run at the Triple Crown. Just parked another one to become the fastest to each 300 HR's. Credits getting out of the slow start to the season by moving his front foot in a little. Crazy to think where his numbers would be if he hadn't started slow.

Not much for batting average and RBI, but Judge leads MLB in HR, TB, BB, OBP, SLG and OPS.

7th in plate appearances.

Yeah, you know I’m not a Judge or Yanks fan but I’ll tip my cap. He is truly a phenomenon. When he stays within the strike zone, he’s hard to get out.

There is a hole in his swing but most pitchers can’t execute it consistently. Hit him high, 95+ and, in (top corner of the zone) he’ll swing below just about every time.

His personal hitting coach was successful w/ his philosophy b/c exactly what you said. He tries to implement it w/ other hitters (incl MLBers) and hasn’t had near the success. Scott Kingery is a prime example. Absolutely ruined his swing after showing promise w/ the Phillies. Now he’s a journeyman MiLBer who finally made it back this season.

Teach every hitter differently. I’ve seen Devers turn 101 from the left side (Chapman) in the chin around quickly. Judge can’t do that. Best he can do is foul off that pitch.

Works during the season. Post Season you’ll see everyone pounding that spot however, and Irish#1 will ask why he’s not hitting.

Second in both leagues with a .333 average and leads both leagues with 110 RBI's.

I probably haven't actively looked for someone's batting average in about 15 years.

As for Judge, he's doing things we've seen before by people who were on the juice. Legendary stuff.

Probably shouldn’t have made that statement if that’s the case.

We have, but there’s nothing to hint that he’s juicing. If he is, I will consider his stats BS the same as Bonds, McQuire, etc.

He’s not juicing. He doesn’t need to.

Bonds was a HOFer before the juice.

I stated I'm not much for batting average and RBI. That means that I personally don't find those two stats relevant to today's game. You go 3-4 with three singles and 3-4 with 3 home runs, your batting average is the same. Pointless.

As for RBI, it's great the Yankees have guys getting themselves on base for Judge to drive them in. That's a good plan when you have a hitter like Aaron Judge.

I never said he was juicing, nor do I think he is. When you put his current numbers into context, the comps all come up Barry Bonds. Judge is doing that kind of stuff and doing it clean (as far as we know and can assume).

Watched the E:60 "28 Outs: An Imperfect Story" on the blown call on Armando Galarraga's perfect game in 2010. It was very well done. Both he and Jim Joyce handled that situation about as good as two people could in that difficult spot.

Good for Niko! Great to see. ☘️

Pretty decent AAA #s this year, slashing .264/.399/.920. Hope he can stick around in the big leagues.

  • Judge and Soto is an incredible 1, 2 punch
  • Ohtani really is a unicorn
  • Vlad Guerrero Jr is having a nice year
  • Bobby Witt Jr looks so special this year. His BA is bananas, never would've guessed he'd be leading the league after last year.

You can make a case for AL MVP, and a very good one, but he's not going to win it. He may not even come second in the vote.
