Blues and rock legend John Mayall passed away Monday at the age of 90. He had just been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame a few months ago (long overdue). Mayall was one of the biggest reasons for the explosion of blues in Britain in the '60s. His band, The Bluesbreakers, was a constantly revolving door that saw the future royalty of British blues rock spend time in its lineup, including Clapton, Jack Bruce and (very briefly) Ginger Baker, future Fleetwood Mac co-founders Peter Green & John McVie & Mick Fleetwood, and future Rolling Stone guitarist Mick Taylor, just to name a few. Mayall was hugely influential in keeping the blues alive and influencing a generation of blues musicians.
