Ruth Westheimer, better known as Dr. Ruth, passed away yesterday at the age of 96. She became famous in the early '80s as this tiny 4'7" Jewish grandmother with a thick German accent who taught us about good sex and made talking about sex normal. She was on countless talk shows, wrote dozens of best selling books, and was a huge cultural icon who was named as one of the 100 most important and influential people of the 20th Century.
I had no idea she was so young. Seriously. I remember her being old in the ‘80s.

You can't just drop something like that and not provide the evidence! That's a 50 DKP minus!

The Newhart show was a bit before my time, and the second iteration I was just a kid. I've seen some reruns of his stuff, but I know him mostly from cameo appearances and the movie Elf. Loved his reoccurring character in the Big Bang Theory. He had a great blooper where he stuck it to the director.

Maybe the greatest dry humor comedic actor ever?
He and Tommy Smothers were masters.

This is one of the most brilliant bits in TV history. Before the Newhart Show, there was The Bob Newhart Show. Suzanne Pleshette played his wife in The Bob NewHart Show. This is the finale of the Newhart Show.

I was reading an article about Bob Newhart's death and it referenced that Newhart co-star Peter Scolari died back in October 2021 at the age of 66 from Leukemia. It caught me by surprise. He was great in Bosom Buddies and Newhart.

Blues and rock legend John Mayall passed away Monday at the age of 90. He had just been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame a few months ago (long overdue). Mayall was one of the biggest reasons for the explosion of blues in Britain in the '60s. His band, The Bluesbreakers, was a constantly revolving door that saw the future royalty of British blues rock spend time in its lineup, including Clapton, Jack Bruce and (very briefly) Ginger Baker, future Fleetwood Mac co-founders Peter Green & John McVie & Mick Fleetwood, and future Rolling Stone guitarist Mick Taylor, just to name a few. Mayall was hugely influential in keeping the blues alive and influencing a generation of blues musicians.
