I wonder if anyone clued Miles in to the fact that the Dodgers have the 9th highest payroll in MLB…just ahead of the Cardinals who have the 10th highest. First world problems.

Maybe, but when the gap between those two teams is $60,000,000 and doesn't include the highest paid player in baseball deferring his salary it sort of skews the discussion.

The point I took was there are 8 teams ahead of the Dodgers despite most fans assuming LA‘s payroll dwarfs the entire MLB. None of these teams are lacking funds. If so, sell to someone who doesn’t lack funds. Miles Mikolas could do a cursory Google search to realize this.

This. This. This.

Everyone could have signed Ohtani. The majority of them chose not to even bother, but make no mistake, it wasn't because they couldn't afford to do it.

Yeah but they aren't playing 8 other teams opening weekend.

Why in the world did Ohtani take a deal that paid him no interest on those deferments?

All I know is I hope Ohtani blows out a knee in week 1 and Yamamoto turns out to be an MLB bust never making the transition. The Dodgers replaced the New York Yankees as the most hated team in baseball with their offseason moves.

The horror! An MLB team putting a shit ton of money into their team instead of pocketing it.
They made some business moves that they thought would bring them the maximum profit in return. Fine. No problem with that. I just hope like most that it backfires on them.

Let's not make them into saints of the MLB.

Apparently, Ohtani’s long time translator was stealing from him to pay gambling debts. Just saw that he was fired.

Who has “made them into saints of MLB”?

That was in reference to your pushback on their offseason moves as if there was nothing shady or at least questionable about their approach to landing talent.

"The horror! An MLB team putting a shit ton of money into their team instead of pocketing it."

That sure sounds like you thought they were a cut above other MLB teams in some moral fashion. They ethically invest in their team, while other unethical MLB teams owners just pocket the profits.

Which is why my reply makes perfect sense in the context of your statement. You were making the Dodgers ownership out to be morally superior to other MLB owners, i.e. making them into saints.

Y'all really complaining about the Dodgers signing a player who's about to go to jail for wire fraud?

Not sure where the morally superior is coming from. You took my words and twisted them into what you wanted to be. Morally superior? Idk about that, but they’re better owners. They’re going balls to the wall to put out a winning team for their fans(and pay a penalty to do so) That’s 1000% better than the A’s, Rays, Marlins, etc..

Okay, so not morally superior, but just better in your view. Fair enough.

That wasn’t my post you silly goose. You should probably stick to college sports. Or better yet, now that players can get paid, you should probably stick w/ HS sports. Godspeed.

This is definitely strange given the different storylines. Baseball needs this to be strictly on his interpreter. They don't want another gambling scandal.

With the Covid 2020 World Series to show for it.

This sport has not seen a back to back champion since the 98-00 Yankees. This isn't European soccer. It's not even the NFL, who have had a dynasty in this century and possibly a second.

So in the end, most owners cry poor and are flat out lying. 2, the teams that do spend money are not guaranteed anything due to baseball's randomness come October.
