Good coach but if he gets the job I would think some others have turned it down.
I hope Nick comes forward at some point to let us know why he decided now is the time to retire. I’m sure his age played a part of it but hope his health is still good. Amazing coach with unparalleled success in the modern era. I just have to think free for all NIL played into his decision.

Interesting fact……U of AL enrollment has increased by 60% since Saban became head coach. The majority of students now at the school are from out of state. He had a massive impact, not only on the game itself. I have a few friends that have personal and/or business relationships with Saban and they have always been extremely complimentary of him and his wife. The coach that replaces him will never live up to expectations.

Kalen DeBoer? But no SEC/The South connection. But a successful coach everywhere he has been and players seem to love him (have you noticed only 2 players so far from WA in the portal and I'll bet they weren't starters).

Freeman would be dumb to go to Bama our roster is better next year and our assistant coaches are better I’ll take our team any day of the week

Even if this was true (it isn’t IMO), no coach is going to forego the opportunity of a lifetime and the best job in the sport because the stars aren’t aligned for a single season. On top of that, if the assistants are better, he could take them all with him.

Hell... the only 'available' coach I know that doesn't have a buyout is Urby..... shit, they are even saying on 'X' that BK might have a chance...... no freaking telling nowadays
Agree. Not sure a buyout matters there though

Pffft. This isn’t 2006 anymore. We’ve upped our game and Freeman now has the best staff in the country. It’d take a lot of ESPN money to bring that staff on for bama.

Lanning wants to be back in the SEC. He turned down earlier offers because what he currently has at Oregon is a sweet gig. Alabama is the type of opportunity he was waiting for. I would be surprised if this isn’t done soon.

Side note, I would love to see it happen just for Oregon fans to be left at the alter again. They are the west coast version of scUM fans.

I live in Eugene and you have no idea how true your side note is.

I'd rather have Deboer than Lanning, but doesnt seem like the type to leave UW so soon or for Bama. Lanning has SEC coach written all over him.

Lanning also isnt a "sure thing" like I'd want if I was Bama. He had the most talent in the Pac-12 in '22 and '23 and came up short of a conference championship both years. Hell of a recruiter tho.
