I'm not a betting man but Oregon State MLB parlayed with the over is almost at 6 to 1. I really want Notre Dame to win this game because being 0-3 against them all time would haunt me for the rest of my life but I also like making sound investments. Can our guys who are looking ahead to next year stay focused in this game? I hope so but I'm not sure.

Playoffs should start in November. 32 teams

Have a consolation bracket where winners get 1 mil to spread between the players

It’s all cash money baby

.....why? lol

Like what does he gain from an opt out? This is likely to be his last opportunity to play a competitive football game and he's already committed to playing in the senior-bowl-shrine-game-glorified-practice-whatever-it's-called.
O’Malley believes there’s a unique reason that hasn’t been announced b/c JD has given his heart & soul to this team. Or he may have simply looked at fact that Marist won’t be next to him & JJB or Mills may not be in front of him. It’s a lower tier bowl, so why risk another concussion? I think it’s the new normal & it’s either Playoffs or a bowl scrimmage. So much for ND finally winning a NY6 bowl in a meaningful manner.

This is not a legitimate concern going forward. The 12-team playoff starting next year is the NY6. Nobody is sitting out of playoff games.

Just reject the premise that this game counts any less than a late season regular season game when a team already has 2-3 losses. If you're willing to opt out of this game, whats stopping a player from calling it quits after those losses? If anything the bowl game against a ranked team, should mean more.

Coaches were too soft to set rules here. They should have been united with this several years ago, highlighting the importance of the game and finishing the season strong. Now the cat is out of the bag and we have teams with tons of opt outs for even NY6 games.

Who said it was a “legitimate concern”? Just noted that the window on that has closed but another has opened via the 12-team CFP.

Your entire post is predicated on ND not being able to win a NY6 in a meaningful manner. The premise of the NY6 in itself is a marketing ploy to get dupes to care about what are in actuality meaningless exhibition games designed to generate money for schools, conferences, and media companies -- money that the players don't get to share in. Going forward, the games that now make up the NY6 will be part of the playoff, and as such, actually meaningful, unlike now.

In other words, your underlying premise is flawed and nobody should actually care about the NY6 as originally conceived and currently constituted.

I would think this bowl game means a lot to Freeman. And, I would think he’s conveying that message to the team.

No it wasn’t you silly goose. It had more to do w/ JD Bertrand. The last line was simply noting that if/when ND wins a NY6 bowl, the haters will point out that the bowl slid down the rankings as meaningless once the 12-team playoff starts. Now if you’re saying the NY6 bowls will be part of the CFB then I agree. Otherwise, ND haters won’t acknowledge they’ve finally broken the streak of NY6 bowl losses if they’re 9-3 playing another “opt-out” riddled team in the Fiesta Bowl

Gotta say, I’m a little surprised this hasn’t become more of a thing, high draft picks on teams with no prospects to win their conference or make the CFP just shutting it down in November.

I’m not clear why it’s so much more accepted to skip the bowl game vs. some ultimately “meaningless” showdown with Wake or Stanford in late November. But it seems to be, unlike a regular season game.

Perhaps that’s because we’ve been telling anyone who will listen for at least a decade that non-CFP bowl games are “meaningless,” even if they have a lot of meaning for the players involved.

Sean Stires just said that they're hearing Bertrand and JJB are going to play in the bowl game. I'm sure Bertrand will play, but man... let me get one more game of JJB!
The game's in two weeks. The staff has been pretty generous in allowing players to each have their moment to declare intentions but at some point you just need to make a decision and the coaches need to know who to practice. I'd kind of figure anyone who hasn't announced by tomorrow or Saturday is in.

MF presser on Friday I would say then by everyone’s decisions should be made until after the bowl game when there will probably be more declarations
