Louisville got overrated on account of beating the pants off ND due to ND turnovers/mistakes and horrible game plan on offense. It was an anomaly. Louisville is, at their core, a fringe top 25 team without a lot of NFL talent.

Louisville? OK. Now it seems you’re reaching a bit.
You needed a last second miracle to beat Auburn. Your offense has looked at times completely inept. And Louisville has a good defense. It's not as far fetched as you think.

I think that's a disingenuous argument against FSU's case. The playoff committee has elevated the Power 5 Conferences to mean more than the G5 conferences. There is nothing that lists the SEC above the other P5 conferences. This sort of shit of perpetually favoriting the SEC because "It just means more" bullshit only goes to further entrench the SEC's grip over the sport.

SOS isn't a be all argument, but it should matter. Bama > FSU > Liberty. It's how I see it. I have no problem with FSU being left out while going undefeated against a bad ACC slate. Similar to how I felt in years the Pac or the Big12 should be left out because of how weak they are. And it's how I feel about Michigan and their trash schedule. Watch all the teams in the top 10 and tell me who you think is the best. My guess is that most people would come to the same conclusion --> Georgia and Bama are still cream of the crop when it comes to talent and coaching. The SEC has a grip over the sport because they win. Only Clemson and OSU can come close to staking such a claim.

UGA, Oregon, OSU, Mizzu and PSU would all beat a healthy FSU team. Committee got it right.
Yeah yeah and this was the year OSU beats Michigan.
Bama should have walked Auburn not need a miracle 4th and 31.
Oregon should have boat raced Washington.

We should have beat Ohio State.

Clemson wasn't supposed to be a challenge this year.

How did all that play out?

Why is Bama's schedule so tough? Who did LSU beat? Who did Ole Miss beat? Who did Georgia beat? Or are we just working backwards from "knowing" every SEC team is the best and their schedules are automatically tougher?

I have to disagree on Louisville. They themselves are super overrated.

After they beat ND. They lost to a shit Pitt team by 17. They barely beat another terrible UVA team. Struggled with Miami. And then ultimately lost to a very average Kentucky team.

Transitive property of sports and all but that’s a trend of not very good football.
And neither is needing a miracle to beat a team that got boat raced by New Mexico State...

Funny how most of the talking heads at ESPN railed against Bama but those same talking heads are predicting that Bama beats Michigan. They can’t even convince themselves what they are saying.

Michigan will be a tough game for sure. I like Bama’s chances and hope we can beat them.

Look. If you want to say these are the best four teams, that's fine. But my question is why do we play a season if I can win all of my games and still not get a chance to play? If you're going to look at rosters to make your judgements why don't we just put the teams with the highest BCR in a playoff each year and tell everyone else not to play.

The thing about SEC fans is pretty much every one I've talked to don't want the games to be played. They want the blue chip ratio to decide who is in the playoffs. They also root for their rivals. It's a sick anti-competition belief system. I hope Bama beats Michigan but I'm not friends with the SEC-brained fans.

Isn't that what they do when they start every season with 5 SEC teams in the top 10 to bolster their SOS then always end the season with 2 in the top 5?

Of all the dumb things I've ever seen in college sports, this is possibly the dumbest.

And please stop pretending Bama is going to easily handle Michigan. Bama just won the weakest SEC in the last 15-20 years, and needed a miracle to beat a 6-6 team...last week.

So many contradictions in this decision, both in the context of this year, and in how the selection has been made in the past.

Washington and michigan don't fit that narrative

People keep saying this but what happens is that it eventually works itself out. Two teams rise to the top. They play in the CCG and then one (sometimes both) get to to the playoffs and one of them wins it all. Shrug. The best of the SEC has proven to be better than 98% of the rest of college football.

When it comes down to it, these teams were picked because they are Big 10 and SEC teams and the sport is moving to a Power 2. Any ACC, Big 12, or G5 team will be left out of the 12 team playoff if possible. There are two classes in FBS now and a bunch of teams just joined the lower class.

Against a garbage schedule.

Schedule matters.

Period.
But not if you are Notre Dame. None of these undefeated teams this year or most years would hold up to the national schedule we play. So…context, but not too much context.

I hope Washington wins it all
I'd take Texas too - back in 2011 when the "Join a conference" drums were beating and Texas A&M had announced they were moving to the SEC Texas reached out to see about scheduling a permanent home and home with Notre Dame the weekend after Thanksgiving - obviously we already had our arrangement with USC/Stanford but it was nice to have a blue blood step up and offer a secure arrangement. Have always had a soft spot in my heart for them since.

I know you are high on your own supply right now after a great upset of Georgia. But your team is not good this year. They got smoked at home against Texas, looked like shit numerous times early-to-mid season, and needed a freaking miracle to beat a trash Auburn team last week.

Maybe, just maybe, the SEC is not good this year? After all, they do have a losing record to the ACC this year.

Ok. I respect your opinion. I do think we got much better as the season progressed. Auburn is Auburn, especially in their house. We’re their Super Bowl every year. Are we good enough? We will see in the coming weeks. Gonna be a tough road for sure.

A rested, healthy Bama with the winter break to game-plan will stomp Michigan imo..

Their roster is bigger, faster & more disruptive..

Michigan hasn’t played a good team all year besides OSU & they’re not great this year either.

How many times have we seen regular season inefficiencies look non existent on the playoff turf after almost a month of rest & preparation?

imo Bama will be well oiled for this game, flying to the ball faster than any D Michigan has faced & faster at the skill positions than any offense Michigan has faced.

No. Two-loss team. Didn't even play in their conf champ.
I guess my question was whether you think they would have favored to beaten TCU.

I guess, more precisely, my question is whether you think TCU deserved to get in over Bama last year?

Devils advocate....They also rolled into Atlanta and beat UGA who hasn't lost a game in almost 3 years. I don't care what happened against Aub...those two always play each other tough.
