I grew up in a working class Pennsylvania town in the late 60s and 70s. If a kid’s dad didn’t have a stash he had a friend whose dad did. Cliches aren’t built out of one-offs, my man.

That's a great anecdote. I grew up in a working class Ohio town in the early 80s and attended private school. My dad didn't have a stash, none of our dad's had one that we knew about. Just because the cliche is true for you doesn't mean it's true for everyone.

That's a pretty shitty thing to say. That family is humble and generous, something to aspire to. My daughter spent a year at her new school walking at recess by herself because everyone was too cliquey to include her or get to know her. That family's daughter was the first to befriend her and make her feel included. God forbid parents raise their kids right and teach them to be better human beings.

I’ve not condemned anything. I’m simply stating a fact. The last place the average kid finds the majority of what he/she reads is in the school library. Our high-tech, superficial and voyeuristic society is bombarded by things far more offensive on a daily basis, no matter how diligent the parents are.

Sure, you can't protect children every waking hour of every day, but they don't need unnecessary exposure either. School isn't the place for such discussion, especially before a child is mature and intelligent enough to understand the topic. It should be up to the parents to make that decision.

This liberal promotes access to any book whether it’s on abstinence or not. I’m certainly not going to go out of my way to try to deny it from someone else.

It's not the school's decision on what's appropriate for all children. Should schools provide cigarettes to kids? Kids used to purchase cigarettes from cigarette machines. What happened when the government figured out kids had access to something they shouldn't have? They banned them everywhere except adult only facilities. Many kids will have access to things they shouldn't, it doesn't make it right. Schools shouldn't be providing inappropriate material.

Good lord, you're right! I should never generalize a piece of literature, that would be like criticizing a movie I've never seen about child sex trafficking! By the way, I picked up "What Girls Are Made Of" yesterday on Google Books so I can check it out fully, I don't think anyone critical of Sound of Freedom bothered to spend 2 hours to find out they were wrong about it.

You're equating snippets in the 1,200 page Bible to a book entirely about a teen's coming of age story where she discusses in great detail sex acts along with a lot of other stuff like detailing how euthanized dogs are boiled alive in some places. The two books are not the same, not even close.

I'm only 20 pages into the book, but just 10 pages in the main character has already detailed a visit to the gyno where she's comparing the doctor's examination to her boyfriends lovemaking. Then the doctor says "You should look at your vulva and vagina regularly" to which Nina imagines the doctor at home drinking wine, rubbing her breasts, and taking vagina selfies. She then talks about how the doctor's touch isn't erotic, not like her boyfriend's. Then she talks about the press of her boyfriend's warm, hard penis in her vagina.

But yeah, this is the stuff you're advocating as appropriate for children. In those first 20 pages they've also detailed the first time she and Seth have had sex, the first time he went down on her, how her desire for Seth overpowers her, and the look on his face when he comes. By the way, I picked up "What Girls Are Made Of" yesterday on Google Books so I can check it out fully, I don't think anyone critical of Sound of Freedom bothered to spend 2 hours to find out they were wrong about it.

You're equating snippets in the 1,200 page Bible to a book entirely about a teen's coming of age story where she discusses in great detail sex acts along with a lot of other stuff like detailing how euthanized dogs are boiled alive in some places. The two books are not the same, not even close.

I'm only 20 pages into the book, but just 10 pages in the main character has already detailed a visit to the gyno where she's comparing the doctor's examination to her boyfriends lovemaking. Then the doctor says "You should look at your vulva and vagina regularly" to which Nina imagines the doctor at home drinking wine, rubbing her breasts, and taking vagina selfies. She then talks about how the doctor's touch isn't erotic, not like her boyfriend's. Then she talks about the press of her boyfriend's warm, hard penis in her vagina.

But yeah, this is the stuff you're advocating as appropriate for children. Im moving on from your perfect circle of an argument but I do want to say that the Utah legislation didnt intend to ban the bible at all. The complaint arose becasue it was appealed in the same manner as other books were and they had to uphold it by their own letter of the law. The language was so broad to encapsulate as much woke literature as possible that in unintentionally and unequivocally included the bible when brought up. In any event the school district removed it and then just days later returned it, basically ignoring the rules the devised (lol). State lawmakers realized they messed up in the language and are fixing it to exclude the bible and book of Mormon and will try to take away the power of the school districts to do this again and keep that power for themselves. Much GOP. So Republican.
