I know everyone is super upset about the last three weeks and want to see BIG changes made, but it's a waste of energy to continue to harp on it. Marcus Freeman isn't going anywhere this off season. It's just not gonna happen.
Just because it may not change doesn't mean fans need to accept if it we don't show major improvements and consistency.

I think most realize unless we finish 6-6 or worse freeman is almost certainly back. That doesn't mean stuff shouldn't happen with coordinators/position coaches that are failing.

I feel like this is what all sports boil down to.

I frankly don't understand why people continue to watch games, pay for websites and post on message boards devoting time and money to something that doesn't seem to make them happy. Just walk away from it for a while, maybe? Every piece of Chicago White Sox clothing I own is in a bin down in our basement. There comes a point where you maybe have to say "enough." For your own sake?

My assessment of Marcus Freeman to this point is that I think he has the right ideas, but he's made some very public mistakes that have been big failures for all the world to see. Trying to hire Ludwig made sense. Taking Ludwig to the hockey game in plain sight for all to see before anything was final was a huge mistake. The wins against Clemson, South Carolina, Duke were huge. The losses are far more well documented and two are still very fresh in our minds. We know his heart is in the right place because he projects to feel what we all feel about ND, which we haven't had in an HC for a long time, but he's got to get his brain and balls in the right place too. That might mean making very tough decisions that upset assistant coaches and players. Not everyone is going to like you as the top guy, and that's okay.

They have a shot to get a dub Saturday night against an unbeaten archrival with the returning Heisman winner at QB, but it's going to take collective effort from all four phases to be far better than they have been the last three weeks. Hopefully the crowd don't boo and act like twats if things start out shaky. There are going to be recruits at the game.

Get the win and go into the bye week with good vibes.

This, you win, and there can be some positive momentum. A loss, being 3 losses out of last 4 going into bye will be a disaster for this teams confidence and ability going forward, and the fan base/media rightfully so will be coming for heads.

What does this even mean? Sure, as fans we don't have to accept whatever decisions we don't like, but I guess I am pretty different in how I respond to these situations. I am not going to scream from the highest mountain (or message board) about how this coach needs to be fired or that guy needs to be benched. I look at it as two choices - be a fan and support the team I love, which sometimes includes disappointment; or become indifferent because of the frustrations of decisions made. I am not gonna waste energy on all the bad stuff happening surrounding my sports team if I can't still get some enjoyment out of it.

Exactly this. I used to be a big Denver Broncos fan. Haven't watched a game in 7-8 years. Don't even look at their scores anymore. It's just not worth spending the time on them.

Do I have some frustrations over ND football right now? Sure I do, but I still get more positive feelings out of the program than negative. If that ever changes then indifference will set in instead of negativity. I truly don't get some of the hyper negativity that permeates sports and message boards. I listened to The Rakes Report Podcast yesterday. I don't usually listen to this pod but I listen every year during USC week as Chris has on a friend that is a big USC fan. That friend was talking about how there are a bunch of "Fire Lincoln Riley" threads on the USC boards. It's become absolutely nuts.

He has 8 years HC experience, is on staff, coaching extremely well, and our admin is dirt cheap. If things go south quickly, I have to think our admin would give him a fair look. Look at our admins history if "continuity!".

Not saying I recommend it.

LOL at whoever the clown is who downvoted the question.
What would the average rank of ND's recruiting classes be under Golden? 50th? I kid, but he is an unbelievably lazy recruiter.

It's literally the point of message boards. When you stink you talk about players and coaches that need to be benched/fired/etc.

When you are really good, you're focusing on how you're going to crush the next opponent and how you'll fair against teams in the CFP that most likely will be in.

I don't get how you expect an ND football message board to not constantly be talking about what's happening right now with ND football, and that's clearly terrible coaching?

This year can turn into 2019 where they lost a tough game to a really good opponent got butt fucked by Michigan and the season was on the brink but they pulled it together after VT or it goes 2014 where the team lost on the last play to fsu and never recovered

Does ND admin care? If they cared about recruiting there's about 5 objective things they're already neglecting.

Complaining about poor performance of coaches, players, admin >>>> complaining about complaining about poor performance. I have no idea the point of being here if you're not going to authentically discuss the state of the state.

Agree, find a way to beat USC and you can salvage this season. Lose, and what should of happened after 2014 needs to happen after this year, fire the worst coordinator responsible.

It's like he's expecting the message board to be only focused on Faison's two catches, maybe Love's rb abilities, or evans unexpected monster season. Instead of what's actually going on with the entire team/program.

But there's no need to break certain keys on your keyboard or phone screen because you wear them out from typing the same thing.

Maybe he just likes intelligent discussion, about both positive and negative aspects of the football team, instead of constant complaining and lazy takes about wanting to fire everybody.

I didn't ask for you to be fired.

I actually don't recommend anyone gets fired yet, but parker should have his role modified if USC doesn't go well, and if this season doesn't turn around, freeman should be on hot seat in 2024.

Also, if 90% of the fan base thinks we have issues with our OC, you're going to see a lot of repeat posts saying the same thing.

Exactly if Brian Kelly survived 4-8 and BVG Freeman isn’t going anywhere it’s no where even close to that bad

gotta learn from prior mistakes. Jack was here for BVG and knows that cost us 2015 when we had a great talented team, and 2016 was a disaster.

Can't make the same mistake twice.

Well this is the defining game for the season now... As long as we find a way to win, it's either gonna be bec. MFMF get team motivated to do so and better execute and/or the OC starts to make better adjustments. If we get totally obliterated and look horrible, and we still have 4 games left, they really should make some coaching and player personnel changes to look towards a much improved 2024. Don't you agree? Hell, we'll still have Clemson on the schedule a few weeks out

BK already had a track record before that horrible season. What do we have thus far? Certainly nothing to write home about.

I don't recall any 10 men on the field incidents or 4 and 16 going for it with 10 minutes on the game or passing with the game in hand with 3 minutes left.

I said he should have been fired after 2014 season….. like I stated above, If the offense doesn’t improve this week and the rest of the year then yea he should be removed from OC role after the season, but not quite yet… if usc is a bust offensively I think he needs a co OC for remainder of the year.

Also, I think he’s a good te coach, so I’m fine if he just stays in that role

Yeah, Kelly was in a funk in 2014 with the D the biggest issue,… jack and Kelly allowed it to continue with no changes … don’t make same mistake twice

Kelly had taken us to a championship game already and was coming off 10-3. Little different level of equity built compare to MF.
Kelly was supposed to be a qb whisperer as well, what happened to that? He was supposed to have high powered offenses. Didn’t happen. He had 30 years experience, and still shit the bed against EVERY top 5 team he faced. At least Freeman hasn’t made us look like we haven’t belonged when we are in our biggest games.

What are we even talking about here?

Freeman’s not getting fired any time soon. Parker sure might (probably should if things don’t improve).

But unless Freeman throws himself in front of the train to save his third?-choice OC who turned out to not be ready for the job, he’ll effectively get a re-do at OC. Maybe with more money to spend.

And that’s fine.
