Not sure he is stupid but passive towards Swarbrick. Kelly would have gone nuts on Swarbrick for denying him his choice of an OC. Kelly pounded the table to get Freeman as DC. Freeman needed to stay DC for a few more seasons and then HC at another program first.
Swarbrick fucked us by hiring Freeman who he got on the cheap by giving Freeman an opportunity he clearly wasn't and still isn't ready for. Then saddled him with subpar co-ordinators.
This has not been Freeman's program. Its Swarbrick's program and you basically get what you pay for.

Lots of coordinators have been hired into first-time HC jobs at big programs and been fine. But, we absolutely should have hired an experienced OC to pair him with. Ludwig or... really anyone who has actually done this at a high level before. The fact that our offense this year is performing worse than our offense last year is mind-boggling.

Five of the current Top 10 teams have coaches who went directly from being a coordinator to being named HC of a major program.
Smart, Day, Venables, Lanning and Riley.

Don’t know exact plan but freeman stated they need better guard and center play so plan was to swap them in and out early last night to give them a chance to see who would play well… didn’t work

Are you talking about the "plan" to swap around interior offensive linemen drive-by-drive? Yeah that didn't go well. I also can not remember ever seeing us do that before, certainly not against a DL that was coming as hard as Louisville's was.
I am not an OL guru by any means but my understanding has always been that continuity and consistency is more important there than anywhere on the field, so yes that seems like a bad idea.

Honestly, Freeman should have hired a competent OC and stayed away from the offense. Parker is terrible but more and more it looks like Freeman is contributing to bad scheme, plan, and personnel decisions on O.

The season is becoming eerily similar to 2014. After ND lost a heartbreaker to the #1 team (who ended up getting exposed in the CFP), they win a shootout vs Navy and go on to lose their final four to inferior teams. This season ND loses (beats themselves) vs OSU (who will end up getting exposed sooner or later), win a nailbiter the following week & get pantsed by UL similarly to how the ‘14 team got run by ASU.
Duke coach was quoted as saying they knew ND defense was gassed by the 2H. They didn’t know if it was hangover from OSU or that Duke was just better conditioned but they were surprised it happened. I guess UL was the delayed hangover from OSU. Speculations on how easy they took it on the players this past week to avoid fatigue. If that’s the case, it was a huge misstep.

not a Fortuna fan so TIFWIW but he stated someone inside the program explicitly told him the new OC would NOT be Parker when Rees left. Makes you wonder who & why settled?

Yes, the plan was terrible. But what I read on a pay site makes it even worse because of when the players found out about that terrible plan.

I've been banging on this point for two weeks but we barely substituted against Ohio State - most of our defensive starters played 90+ percent of the snaps - and it came back to bite us in the second half against Duke and again last night.

On the great QNelson OLine which won the Moore award, we had four vets (McGlinchey/ Nelson/ Mustipher/ Bars and a spot on the right side at tackle. Tommy Kraemer won that the previous year over Eichenberg but we now had Hainsey in ascendance. Heistand wanted to give Hainsey a chance but realized that Tommy was very good too. Harry therefore decided to alternate Kraemer and Hainsey on drives (Tommy gets a drive, then Robert gets a drive.) I marked all of those during the season and both did well, but Tommy's drives were almost always the ones we scored on. So it HAS happened that we've subbed OLine in tandem, but that was pretty different. ... my memory DOES fade a bit, but I'm positive about the Kraemer/Hainsey alternate drive subs in some year or another --- I think it was the Q year, but could be wrong on that.

I don’t think Freeman is involved at all with the offense. He wanted someone besides Parker so can’t blame him for ADM not backing him. That’s on Jack. Notre Dame has more money than any college they should be able to have the best coordinators

What I can’t get over is Marcus Freeman has been at ND for 3 seasons and last night he had one LB play snaps that was not a Lea holdover. That LB was former 5 star Jaylen Sneed and he played 9 snaps.

This is kind of like 2009 for me, not easy as a fan… I know we are very talented, experienced, and I was bullish on the season… felt it was best title shot since the 90s…
