Here's hoping Botelho reaches his potential. Menace was the perfect choice of words Foskey used.
He needs to be one of at least two game wreckers on the dline. Cross is the safe choice to be the other.

you don't rate Mills?
I thought we were all big on him.
just like last year, he was supposed to have his big breakout year....the talking heads were predicting high sack #'s and he just isn't consistent, not very great against the run or a great pass rusher....disappointing thus far

I like his style in that interview, serious Teddy Roosevelt vibes.

Smart coaches are pretty careful about who they put in front of cameras. Way back in the mid-sixties the VTech coach had a small show. He wanted to show off his two Tech Engineers, one of which was my brother, the other a fine guy named Judd.. Unfortunately, this day was one of his goof-off days, and when the head coach introduced my brother, and asked him a question, my brother said in his best put-on southern accent: "Bare ask Judd, he smarter than I are."

My brother thought it was a great joke.
The coach didn't.
Lucky my brother was the starting right guard.

He’s not really a defensive end. Honestly, Golden has done a good job running a defense with a bunch of tweeners at that position.
I agree. No offense to the kids but I’m tired of watching athletes like Bothello, Liafau & DJ Brown fall short of 1st team expectations. Their role players.

To be fair, who on this team has whelmed?

Estime and love and price do good as a combination unit when you aren’t running right at 8 Fucking people that have loaded the box and know you are still gonna run right at it.

When the commentator on the broadcast is pointing out 9 in the box and they continue running up the gut someone on our staff has to notice the same thing and throw a slant or screen etc… come on, it’s so frustrating

I'll never buy preseason hype again- LOL the ISD/II guys were debating o/u 10 sacks for this guy

The II guys had a podcast right before the season.

Someone asked them the O/U at 6.5 sacks. I think they all said they’d stay put at 6.5.

I think it’s highly unlikely that he gets to that number, but there is still six games left accounting the bowl game, so it’s still possible.

Remember, Botelho had the highest pass-rushing win rate on last years roster. It was fair for most to assume that Botelho playing more snaps would likely means more sacks.

I’d also say Howard Cross has overwhelmed. Same with Benmo and Hart, think they both have played well.

Cross has been our best defensive player. Hart and Watts have been good too.

Morrison is our best cover corner but is also our worst tackler- he needs to hit the weight room if he wants to be a first round draft pick.

Everyone else has clear weaknesses- the biggest weakness for Marist and Botelho is being stupid. The coaching staff would be just as stupid to let them come back for another year.

I disagree with you on Watts. Xavier has been solid, but has underwhelmed. If you think BenMo is a poor tackler you have to acknowledge that Watts is not a very good tackler especially at the safety position. I’d add DJ Brown the other safety as an extremely poor tackler.

Morrison tackling has been very spotty this year. Saying that I feel like his tackling has improved. I don’t think he missed at tackle last night, maybe 1 tackle missed. He made some tackles out in space last night that he was whiffing earlier this year.

Notre Dame probably has the worst tackling safeties in FBS.

Also, I don’t think Botelho has played poorly. He has been setting the edge really well all season. And he has made a few TFL. The only underwhelming part from Botelho this year is the sack numbers. But the poster above is correct. Botelho is not a DE he is playing out of position. He is best suited as an on the ball liner backer

This past week, Pete Sampson alluded to some metric (PFF maybe?) showing that Morrison was the worst tackler on the team. He was a better tackler last year IMO

Watts hasn't made many flash plays, but I think he's been good (definitely compared to Brown). He, like most of our players, does occasionally run around out of control

The INT against Duke was huge. Morrison has been a poor tackler, but his coverage overall may have improved in the past year, first touchdown yesterday aside. Hart has been way better than past years, especially in coverage. Harper has been pretty good as well, not too much of a dropoff from Bracy’s great year last year. JJB has surpassed expectations as well. Gonna miss him next year unless someone steps up big on the strong side.

Yeah Morrison is definitely our best cover corner. I forgot about JJB- poor guy played his heart out against his former team

That is fair regarding Morrison as he has missed a bunch this season. Saying that I thought he has his best tackling game last night. I’m not sure if he even missed a tackle last night. I would have to rewatch the game, but I was so frustrated last night I deleted off the DVR lol.

Watts is head and shoulders the best safety on the team. Saying that just like everyone else on the defense he has missed a bunch of tackles that he should have made. He has played solid this year, but he is no where near his full potential. So fingers crossed Watts comes back for 2024.

It's not Botelho's fault that he's too small to really be a rush end, and I'd agree he is pretty good at setting the edge. But sometimes you need a game-wrecker in that position and he just isn't that.

Yeah. Again his best position would probably be an on the ball OLB.

And you are correct 100% need a game-wrecker at WDE. Sadly there is no one on the roster currently or any recruit incoming that could provide that 😢

I still believe Traore will be the one who was promised.
