They can’t just ‘come back’ either. The coaching staff has to ok it. All 3 coming back would really stunt the growth of the underclassmen, not to mention result in 1 or more transfers.

Yeah that's the risk. OTOH if Bertrand wants to come back I'm not sure how you tell a two-time captain who plays every flippin snap to get lost.
I do think though, for a lot of guys, five years of college football is sufficient. We've had a number of guys with weak NFL prospects turn down a sixth year by their own choosing.

IMO Kiser and Sneed should be getting roughly half the LB snaps, Bertrand and Liafau the other half.

Bertrand and Liafau are way too hit or miss to be out there all the time.
I agree with this. IMO it’s really head scratching why Kiser gets so little snaps. I understand that they take the rover spot off the field when playing nickel. In those cases rotate Kiser in at Will with Marist.

He had both hands on the guy's facemask. You have to call that. Completely indefensible from a veteran linebacker
He was also blocked into it and it was off the ball. You don't have to call that.

If you’re still defending Liafau then I don’t know what to tell you. He’s horrible considering his experience & athleticism. He still runs into blocks. He still misses tackles. On the play where he got credit for a sack, he ran into it b/c that was all Sneed. I hope he gets an ND degree b/c he’s gonna need it. He hasn’t earned the right to start anymore.

To be fair...Liufau wasn't credited with a sack cause Plummer literally back pedaled back to line of scrimmage and dragged his ass along. He's always getting dragged and falling off ball carriers and the next time he makes a form tackle will be the 1st time. The penalty was a penalty and a typical Liufau play. I know I'll get push back for this but like someone has previously stated, he should be flagged way more than he is. He's a pile jumper and takes cheap shots.

This whole team plays like they need to read Football for Dummies.

Horrifically undisciplined and lazy.

Undisciplined is 100% the word.

On a third and 15, odds are you’re getting off the field. Marist wasn’t even a part of the play anymore when the facemask occured.

Infuriating. That simply can’t happen for a guy with his experience.

Yet ND fans blame the refs

That face mask penalty was 1 of 4 plays that doomed them last night.
1) fumble handoff to Tyree
2) Tyree dropping sure touchdown
3) Blake’s face mask negating a huge pass reception by Evans downfield
4) Marist face mask.

After those the game was sealed.

Yep, that Louisville team was average and we could have still won despite how bad Parker and freeman are if we don’t make brutal mental mistakes… but that’s a reflection of your coach… stupid coach stupid players

And every one of those mistakes was made by a veteran, three of them (Hartman, Tyree, Liuafau) by fifth-year guys.
I will say, Tyree's dropped touchdown is what you get when you have a RB for a WR. The ball was coming in over his shoulder and he just didn't track it or turn to go up and get it.

We only had three penalties last night but they were killers. The two face masks and a false start on a third and inches which was probably going to be a QB sneak

So Hartman is actually in his sixth year not his fifth year. And Tyree is in his fourth year not his fifth year.

An average of five years then! (Apparently it only feels like Tyree has been on the team since 2014).

This should be worth a discussion...

via Walterfootball:

Liufauh has impressed team sources in 2023 and is off to a good start with 33 tackles, 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble. In 2022 as a first-season starter, he recorded 51 tackles, an interception, .5 sacks and a pass defended. Liufauh missed the 2021 season with an injury.

Pro evaluators say they love how Liufau is extremely fast and athletic. They labelled his instincts as good but not great, but he is very violent and can play stacked or rush the quarterback. They state he is a different kind of player with an exceptional skill set. Liufauh has three-down-starter ability and upside for the NFL.

They list him as a 1-2 round draft pick.

Not sure who does the rankings on their site, but one of there guys, Charlie Campbell, covers a lot of the draft process heading into the draft season, and a lot of what he is able to dig up through NFL Scouting Directors is usually valid.

Charlie Campbell and Walterfootball don't have Liufau in their latest 2-round mock drafts. I wonder how many prospects are graded as a "1-2 round draft pick." Like the way Driskell randomly says "oh this is a top 100 kid" without knowing exactly who the other 99 would be

If he's "extremely fast," then how did they describe Caleb Williams' speed? Because Williams made Marist look like he was running in sand

For comparison, here are the Round 1-2 LBs that ND has had in the past 15 years. You're telling me Marist is anywhere near these guys?

JOK (52 overall)
Jaylon Smith (34 overall), obviously impacted by injury
Manti (38 overall)

Yes. He, Bertrand and Kiser all are. If Liufau is really a second-day pick, good for him. Go get it, kid.
I don't see it but then I'm not an NFL scout.
Maybe they meant potential for round 1-2? Either way, I wouldn’t be upset at him returning.
